Coconut discovered near polling station sparks ‘black magic’ fears on island

Source: DATELINE ZERO | Police confiscated a coconut for fear it was a black magic device, when it was discovered near an area that was to be used as a polling location for Kaaf atoll Guraidhoo island. The coconut was discovered by school children who promptly alerted authorities.

Minivan News quotes one witness: “The four-inch coconut had writing in Arabic and was lying on the ground near the school, easy for the public to see. When school students saw the coconut they called the principal, who then contacted the police. Now the police and school officials are more aware and police are patrolling the school at night, so magicians can’t practice real black magic at the school.”

According to CNM News, the Guraidhoo council’s Vice President, Abdul Latheef Ahmed, is aware of the situation, and is urging people to not jump to conclusions: “I was informed that it was found towards the front of the school. I have not been directly informed. But that is what I heard. Perhaps this could be a prank.”
