That maxim about peeling the layers of an onion actually applies to the UFO saga.
Reading Lynn Picknett’s The Mammoth Book of UFOs [Carroll & Graf, NY, 2001], as mentioned earlier here, especially Chapter 7, about the government insertion (intrusion) into the UFO story, and Nick Redfern’s prolific work about the same, and recently in his Top Secret: Alien Abduction Files [Disinformation Books, Red Wheel/Weiser, LLC, Newport, MA, 2018], along with the whiffy hints about the Air Force’s UFO cover-ups in the History Channel’s god-awful Project Blue Book, tells me that that the whole UFO phenomenon is a contrived governmental/military affair.
Nick Pope intrigues with his insight(s) about the British tomfoolery concerning UFOs and there are a plethora of UFO enthusiasts and writers, besides those named, even way back when in the Donald Keyhoe era, who insist the UFO story is one machinated (even manufactured) by government agencies to hide the UFO truth, whatever it is.
But then there are the quasi-historical accounts of strange things in the sky, provided by Chris Aubeck and Desmond Leslie before him, among others.
Plus, I’m entranced by Albert Rosales’ Humanoid Ecounters books (and online cataloging of same), which indicate a world-wide pathology or obtrusions of odd creatures (often from flying disks or saucers) that show up from somewhere.
Then there is the ETH, a speculation by many UFO buffs, doltish as it may be, that UFOs are interplanetary visitors.
Of course there are the Aerial Phenomenon bunch who either accept UFOs as meteorological phenomena or say that all UFOs are something strange but unknown, yet natural.
Thus, we who like the phenomenon and think it’s real, in some way or another, are stymied by all the blather generated by the above.
That’s where we are, in the ufological maelstrom created by the fictive, and it remains fictive, portrayal of UFOs.
There seems to be no out, nor any concrete or semi-concrete explanation that elicits an answer that satisfies.
So, here we are, right where we were back in 1947 when this whole flying saucer thing reared its pungent “reality.”
