CoVID-19 Thoughts... Looks Like It's Time To Prep!
So… it doesn’t appear this thing is going to be contained. It’s breaking out here, it’s breaking out there, it’s not yet breaking out everywhere, but it’s just a matter of time now. By next autumn if not this spring for sure.
I’ve been a “lite prepper” most of my life. I’ve kept wind of the odd news of the world and I’ve been groomed by my experiences and from visions and dreams to be as ready as possible with contingency plans because our society has been on the brink of a crash (or severe decline) for a couple of decades at least.
Cat’s been hearing me preach about this type of thing since we were teenagers, and she’s internalized enough of it over the years that she’s always had a month’s worth of supplies on hand all the time. For one thing, it means less shopping trips, and for another the habit saved her bacon when they had electric go out from a storm for over 3 weeks where she lived. She and her mom already had a portable generator hooked up to the house.
So we’re not in BAD shape for this coming pandemic, but I’d like to be in better. This weekend, Cat and I are buying another couple of month’s worth of supplies. If it ends up being no big deal, we have a lower grocery bill for a few months later after this new disease thing passes. But if we have travel restrictions and quarantines later, I’d rather not have to worry about running out of toilet paper, you know?
I’m glad Cat’s on board and not one of those people who denies it because just the thought of it is too distressing to contemplate. Fortune favors the bold– and that means taking action while your neighbors are still trying to work out how serious this could be. I don’t have to convince her and argue about it. We’re already pretty well off, but we’ll be even more well off soon.
Pandemics tend to come in 3 main waves — the first milder wave, which catches a few and then moves to the southern hemisphere for a time. The most deadly wave is the medium one– it catches the most people and kills the most as well. The third wave is the mildest of all, because herd immunity is built up.
Because this is a mutating corona virus, which causes colds and respiratory disorders like SARS and MERS, it looks like it’s destined to become a new rotating common viral disease that just goes around like the various flus we have and have to keep making new vaccines for every year. Eventually, it will be “endemic” or widely spread and mutating regularly and just a part of life.
But as this new Killer Cold goes around for the first time? Individual immunity to it will vary widely, and the most damage it can do will be in it’s second round. That’s the one that we really won’t have time to adjust for, as we’ll be recovering from Wave One and out of supplies by Wave Two.
Wave Two should hit this next autumn and winter.
However, first we need to brace ourselves for the first wave. We’re out of practice as a society in dealing with contagious disease, and anti-vaxxers haven’t helped. (It’s not that they didn’t have a point. Mercury preservatives used to be in vaccines for over a decade, and having too many vaccines at once for babies and toddlers is retarded!)
I think it’s hilarious that they keep telling people not to panic, when the bigger issue is actually getting ready. Most people, if they aren’t panicking, just aren’t changing anything at all until they have no choice. And really they mean “DON’T CRASH THE STOCK MARKET!” – money is more important than life in our upside down priorities for the authorities.
I don’t think there will be widespread power outages or riots or anything, just a weird quiet as people stop going to work and school during certain outbreaks locally. More of a whimper than a bang in this case.
