Dental Stuffs
Sorry for the week-long absence, I’ve been busy or recovering from busy.
Last Friday, I finished working out how my loan (for dentistry) was going to work (super easy, actually.) This last weekend, I had to take care of some to-dos, including an intense roomie meeting (mostly good though– we just talked about difficult subjects). Monday I had therapy, and Tuesday was the next big dental visit (I have a few smaller ones, but only one big one left for a crown). Yesterday I took a “self-care” day to recover and watched the VP debate last night, which just made me mad, so I’m wise to steer clear of these things most of the time right now.
The dental visit was 2 major fillings and I had one medium panic attack and one small one. The medium came at the beginning when I got the shots to the gum– because it HURT (numbing agents aren’t that powerful on me, as my dentist has made note of — I think it’s the red-haired thing) and then the novocaine provokes adrenaline rushes in certain people, and I am one of those people, as my dentist has also noted. (I’m SO lucky! Extra sensitive to pain, less sensitive to numbing agents, and prone to adrenaline rushes with several agents… wheee!) The small panic attack came right at the end, because the crying meant I’d clogged up my sinuses and then the extra water in my mouth kept pooling at the back of my throat and I literally couldn’t swallow and then breathe at times, and I started to feel– waterboarded. Luckily, that was at the tail end and came out of the attack pretty quickly.
I chided myself though, because I had made up my mind to take 2 5mg valium pills, but I was SO dopey after 1 I got cocky and second-guessed myself. I told Cat to remind me that no matter how dopey I am, I STILL need to be more out of it for major dental procedures. *Head desk* 10 mg of valium, not 5! I need to be super stupid dopey in order to stay cool when things juice me up. Because I felt pretty dared sober after panic attack #1, you know? I couldn’t even tell I’d taken Valium after that.
Negative anticipation of the dental procedure (not as bad as before, but still…) made it too much to deal with anything else for several days, both before and after, so I’m just trying to get back to being able to focus.
However–! I did NOT take any nitrous oxide, and I had ZERO vertigo afterwards, so it was DEFINITELY the nitrous leaving a long term super dizzy effect, not just having my head at a weird angle for a prolonged period of time. I know tiny crystals being dislodged that is supposed to cause it, but I think it was just the drug! I looked online for anything about that, and I couldn’t find anything, but maybe I’m just an outlier. I react so oddly to so many drugs that it wouldn’t surprise me.
