Plans For Mabon

It appears I’m back to being an active Neopagan!

Both Amara and Bess are coming over to celebrate Mabon, and it should be a lot of fun! I’m really looking forward to this!

We’ll be going on a “stag hunt” but really, it’ll be more like clues being left around the property leading participants towards the hiding place of a pair of stag antlers that Cat has. Since we have real deer around, it should be easy to use their real clues next to my own clues so it feels like a real “hunt”. The winner will be crowned “Queen of the Hunt”! I’ll be making some small wreath thing to wear for that.

Then we’re gathering apples from the property and using our cider press to squeeze juice that will be ready to be consumed as cider by Yule!

Next, we’ll be making a harvest type of bouquet to tie together and leave as a gift upon our Great Stone (we have this HUGE boulder about 5 feet long 3 feet wide and 3.5 feet high) representing our thanks to the Mother as the land we live upon.

Lastly, we’ll be burning mini-scarecrows representing things we’re ready to let go of in our wood stove. (We’re finally able to have fires indoors again after some sprinkles of rain and higher humidity!)

For our feast, I’ll be serving beef and mushroom kabobs, and we’ll have sparkling cider for beverages, with  a fancy carrot dish & huckleberry something for dessert.

But the real star of the show will be the $300 hummus dish with 28 ingredients that Cat’s making based on a recipe from Egypt during the medieval period! I’ve smelled the many spices that to into it (which is where most of the cost comes from) and it’s unlike anything I’ve every smelled before, but it makes my mouth water. I don’t know how well it’ll mix with the olives and chickpeas, but I’m excited to find out. And Cat gets to show off her new “historical cookery” hobby to a group of people only too happy to try it with her!

We’ll be doing all of this on Sunday, the closest weekend day to the Autumnal Equinox.
