How to Keep Your Home Safe When SHTF

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Important question:

Could you defend your family when the shit hits the fan?

Are you doing everything you can to ensure your family is safe?

Could your home sustain a flood, fire, tornado, or outside attack?  There are a lot of threats in the world today and if you are going to survive, then your home needs to be prepared.  Preparing your home will take some work,  sure, but you will thank yourself, when, not if, the day comes.

The Initial Construction is Everything

One of the most important things when it comes to keeping your home safe in a hostile environment is the overall construction of the home.

The stronger the house, the more threats it can withstand.  Simple as that.

The ideal home for protection is fashioned from a combination of both brick and wood frame construction.  The brick gives it strength while the wood frame allows the house to flex a little if the weather ever demanded it.  Total wood frame construction is no good, but if you are stuck with it then your best option is going to be a safe room.

A Safe Room is your Safest Bet

Having a safe room may seem like overkill to some, but when the shit hits the fan you are going to be thanking your lucky stars that you made
the investment.  Safe rooms can drastically range in size, so selecting the right one might by a challenge.

The main thing you should take into consideration when choosing the correct size of safe room is whether or not it can hold everyone in your family multiplied by two.  Now, I know that might seem like a bit large and expensive, but you never know when who you may have to offer shelter to when things start to go south quickly.

Your neighbors, friends, or extended family may be in desperate need of shelter.  It would be heartbreaking to have to turn someone you care about away because you just don’t have enough room in the shelter.  It is always better to have too large of a safe room than it is to have too small of a safe room.  You and your family will appreciate the extra room if you have to be in the safe room for an extended period of time.

Water, the Most Vital Resource

The next step in ensuring that your house is secure when the shit hits the fan is having an adequate reserve water supply.  Now if things get bad and you are forced to stay in your home with your family for a long time then you are going to need water, and a lot of it.  Water is like gold in a post-disaster scenario so having it will put you in a great position.

You have two options when it comes to building up a water reserve.

The easiest way is to go out and purchase ten, one-gallon jugs of water for each person in your family.  Therefore, a family of five should have a minimum water reserve of fifty gallons.

The other and arguably less expensive thing to do is to build yourself a water holding tank.  Now, the tank should be located within the house so you don’t have to leave the safety of your fortress if you or your family is in need of water.  A tank can obviously hold more water, but you the down side is that you need ample amounts of space within your home to construct and operate a reserve water tank properly.

Either way, having ample amounts of water around is absolutely key to surviving in a hostile post-disaster world.

Your Home is Your Castle

A strong overall construction, a safe room, and an adequate water supply are just three of the many precautions that every prepper should take when it comes to safeguarding their home.  Your home is your castle, and when the shit hits the fan, you want to know that your castle can stand up to any threat that presents itself.

Smart preppers prepare their home to withstand any threat, and you should do the same.  Prepare your home today and you’ll be thanking yourself when not if things turn towards the worst.
