Awhile back I gave a friend of mine a Lifestraw with the caveat that he could have it as long as he wrote a guest article about it.  As you can see he fulfilled his obligation and I’m posting it so you can have an unbiased review of the Lifestraw.

Hello all you SHTF Heads!

I was tasked to write a review on the LifeStraw water filtration system by Jarhead Survivor. So I thought why not drink from a body of polluted water and wait an hour and then write about my slow, painful, agonizing demise!  Hell, I’m sure that someone would find it amusing reading.

Well I am here to say that it did not go down as planned. It worked perfectly.

The LifeStraw system is one of the few things in this world that actually delivers on what it promises. It works! Plain and simple to use, no moving parts and it just works and works well. I found that the water was almost clear and the taste was better than that of some city’s water supplies that I have had to use. I could rehash all the technical data but it is available on the web, stated better and in more detail then I could here in this review.  So I would encourage you all to Google the system if you really want the science behind the “miracle” of LifeStraw.  It is important that you read the instruction on the use and care of the filter.  It’s just common sense but read it anyway.  At the least  it will remind you to keep your hands clean! So I will focus here on the practical aspect of using the filter. And they are:

1.) Built well and robust.

2.) Simple to use.

3.) Light in weight and easy to carry.

4.) Simple to clean.

5.) Lasts for ~1000 Liters

6.) When end of life is reached it stops drawing water. (Think about that– it works for both EoL’s)             Sorry – a little death humor there.

My one criticism, no wait I have no criticism, just a suggestion. I assume that most of you who read this blog have at least at one time or another gone out on a hiking or camping trip. At least I would hope you have. Saying that, you all know how easy it is to lose attention and then BAM! You find yourself on your ass. So I would suggest packing the tube with some soft packing or maybe making a PVC sheath just for that added protection. Trust me you will really want this filter to work should you ever have to use it. Well that’s about it. Thanks for reading. Let’s all hope that we will not have to use our survival skills anytime soon! But current events keep telling me to stop my wishful thinking.
