Washington, DC – -( Last week, Attorney General Luther Strange testified before the United States Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies.

The Subcommittee, chaired by U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), heard testimony on a wide variety of firearm-related issues, including President Obama’s recent Executive Order.

During his testimony, Attorney General Strange rebuked President Obama’s recent attempt to “intimidate and frighten law-abiding citizens” though unilateral executive actions that constitute an “unwarranted assault on the Second Amendment.”  As Attorney General Strange succinctly stated, “limiting the ability of responsible citizens to buy a gun will not keep criminals from getting one.”

Attorney General Strange correctly highlighted what law-abiding gun owners have lamented for years: President Obama seems more concerned with making it harder for law-abiding individuals to obtain firearms than the criminals he refuses to prosecute.  Attorney General Strange, the chief law-enforcement officer in Alabama, related that many of the law-enforcement officers he spoke to reject further interference with your Second Amendment rights.

He states, “the law enforcement officers in my state, and I dare say around the country, believe these actions will not have a meaningful impact.”  Instead of bypassing Congress and taking unilateral executive action, Attorney General Strange provided his own three-part solution;

“Number one: Enforce the laws already on the books.  Number two: Prosecute criminals for gun-related crimes.  Number three: Stop releasing violent criminals from jail before their sentences are completed.”

Please contact Attorney General Luther Strange’s office and thank him for supporting law-abiding Alabamians’ Right to Keep and Bear Arms. You can reach Attorney General Strange at 334-242-7300 or by clicking here.

Established in 1975, the Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the “lobbying” arm of the National Rifle Association of America. ILA is responsible for preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals in the legislative, political, and legal arenas, to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
