I first did a post about how to grow wheat grass for easter about 12 years ago on the blog. My two biggest kids were tiny and my younger two weren’t even born yet. It’s been fun to watch them grow up on my blog and crazy to think how long we’ve been doing this! I don’t have teeny tiny kids at home any more but my 11 year old still thinks it’s fun to have live grass in a basket for Easter and my husband is excited to try to eat wheatgrass because I’ve been touting all the health benefits of it to him.
I figured since I was making the easter grass baskets anyway I might as well film a video tutorial for those who are more visual and prefer to learn that way over a long written post about it. Hope you enjoy!

Ways to Incorporate Wheat Grass Into Your Diet
It is recommended to drink 1 oz of wheatgrass juice (or about 1/4 cup of grass) a day, preferably first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. You will want to harvest the grass when it is about 4-6 inches tall. If you trim it just above the level of the roots you can let it grow again for a 2nd harvest!
Wheat Grass Juice
You can make homemade wheat grass juice by using a fancy juicing machine (they have electric or manual ones available). This gets the pulp removed very nicely. If you don’t want to buy a separate kitchen tool you can use a high-powdered blender by mixing the grass and a little bit of water, but you will need to strain the juice afterwards with a mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the pulp.
Wheat Grass Smoothies
Since wheat grass has such a strong flavor you may opt to mix it into your daily green smoothie. A little goes a long way so don’t get too ambitious with your quantities, and try to add some fruits with a strong flavor like pineapple and banana to balance it out!
Freeze-Dried Wheat Grass Powder
If you have a home freeze-dryer you can freeze-dry your wheat grass and then powder it. In this form you can sneak it into all kinds of foods very easily. 1 tsp is about equivalent to one serving of the wheat grass juice. You can make juice, add it to smoothies, or even get creative and try some fancier recipes like this Wheatgrass Avocado Pistachio Ice Cream, Wheatgrass Lime Cilantro Dressing, or Raw Chocolate Bliss Balls.
