Feinstein's Proposed Weapons Ban

    Diane Feinstein has announced her bill to ban all military-style assault weapons and high capacity ammunition feeding devices. It will go to the floor in January, 2013. Below is a summary of her bill from her website.

• Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:

• 120 specifically-named firearms;
• Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and
• Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.

• Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test;
• Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and
• Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans.

• Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment;
• Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes; and
• Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.

• Background check of owner and any transferee;
• Type and serial number of the firearm;
• Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
• Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
• Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

     My husband went recently to buy extra magazines for the SKS and was overjoyed at the discussion about such a ban he overheard in Academy Sports. There are many here in the great volunteer state who will not give up our weapons easily. I am not a violent person but I feel we are at a precipice in this nation and the decisions we make in the new year will effect our children for generations after we are gone, just as our national debt will be paid for by our great grandchildren. I have to ask what will we do when they come for our weapons? We can talk the talk but will we walk the walk? Are we true to our rights’ to bear arms and have a well regulated militia? We must tread very carefully over the next few months our children’s liberty may be in a danger like never before.     If we cannot manufacture any of these weapons on top of losing part of our second amendment rights we also lose vital jobs in a nation that is already in serious fiscal trouble. She is also calling for us to have to create more funding for the ATF. I do not know how my fellow Americans feel about such a ban and laws but I for one think it is an over-reaction to one tragic incident. We must let them know we do not accept this plan as a viable solution to our existing problems. If she has her way none of us will be able to carry anything stronger than a 12 gauge. We are playing right into the UN gun ban and Agenda 21 by passing such a ban. She has missed the point that it is not about being able to hunt game it is about being able to fight tyranny. A tyranny that is tightening its grip on us as we speak. Wake up my friends, time is getting very short indeed!
