Impeachment Papers Should Be Made Ready…

After watching the President’s press conference yesterday to “fix” Obamacare, I had a lot of questions. If you didn’t know the site was broken before the launch; why haven’t you sacked the person who didn’t tell you? If getting the website fixed is being hamstrung by inefficient government agencies and cumbersome internal rules; why on earth would you entrust oversight of the entire health care system to these same government agencies?

But the answer to the question I REALLY want is this…

Where exactly in the U.S. Constitution does the President have the authority to change a law because it isn’t working right? Doesn’t the House and the Senate have to pass a bill to do this?

The Administration’s answer to this is that they aren’t changing the law, but just not choosing to enforce a key provision of the law for a year. There is precedent for selective enforcement of laws, as the Obama Administration chose to do with the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). But in that case, they chose to ignore the whole law, not just pick and choose selective pieces of a 2700 page piece of legislation they don’t like. This kind of power was NEVER given to the President under the Constitution and gives him practically unlimited power to selectively make legal (or illegal) whatever he chooses.

The President is effectively giving himself the line item veto for laws that are already passed. If the President can’t veto individual items on a bill, how can he selectively choose to ignore those items once they are passed?

The headlines this morning are talking about how Obama’s proposed fix is unworkable, liable to raise costs and such…and all of that is true.

But if the President moves forward with this action unilaterally, he (once again) is directly violating the Constitution, impeachment proceedings ought to start immediately. We have been calling for impeachment of this President for years for his continued efforts to usurp Presidential power he does not have. This President has a long history of grabbing for power. And the Congress has a long history of whining about it, and then letting him get away with it…

But this grab gives him unprecedented power.

Congress needs to act this time against Obama’s Constitutional violation, or they might as well cede the rest of their Constitutional authority away to the executive branch. The odds of that happening are slim at the federal level. And now that Virginia (with Fast Terry drooling to get his hands on the state government) has effectively become a province of Washington D.C. instead of a sovereign state…nullification at the state level is certainly not going to happen anytime soon.

Buckle your seat belts boys and girls because the ride is going to get bumpy as Obama’s vision for destroying the Republic are now in full swing.
