Sometimes these gadgets are just under your kitchen cupboard. Literally.
While watching the latest Star Trek movie, Star Trek Beyond, there was a scene where Spock is doing some scientific experience and is using the scanner. When I saw the scanner, I could not believe my eyes. It is the LED light sticks that we have in our kitchen underneath the cabinets to provide extra light. We have also used these during a blackout we had in the city a couple of years back.
I guess we live in the future. Or the set designers decided to throw in some currently available technology into a movie about the future. The light is identical. Even comes with the same holder that sticks to the underside of the cabinet. It has very strong adhesive as they been hanging there for a few years. And being LED, they have lasted just as long. The only thing different from our kitchen gadget to the one used in the movie is the black wire that was glued to one of the sides.
