Virtual Thanksgiving Parades 2020

For many attending an annual Thanksgiving parade is a family tradition. This year in order to keep everyone safe, most parades have gone virtual.

Here’s an update on Virtual Thanksgiving Parades in 2020

• Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be virtual this year, but will still include Broadway performances. “This year, the celebration will shift to a television-only special presentation, showcasing the Macy’s Parade’s signature mix of giant character helium balloons, fantastic floats, street performers, clowns and heralding the arrival of the holiday season with the one-and-only Santa Claus,” a representative for Macy’s said in a statement. The 94th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 26, on NBC.
• Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be a televised event this year with the theme “We Are One Together” to honor essential front-line workers and the heroes of the COVID-19 devastation. Morning coverage begins at 6 a.m. on WDIV-Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit.com with a special edition of Local 4 News Today. At 8 a.m., Jason Carr and Tati Amare host “America’s Thanksgiving Parade Preview with Live in the D. “America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner-White” starts at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, including a one-hour syndicated national broadcast from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. reaching more 185 major cities across the country (check local TV listings).
• The 1.4-mile 6ABC Dunkin’ Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade is the oldest Thanksgiving parade in the country and a true Philadelphia tradition. Sadly it has been cancelled this year. 6abc will hold a Thanksgiving Day celebration instead of a parade in Philadelphia with fun, music and Santa all viewed in the comfort of your own home.
• The Ameren Thanksgiving Day Parade in St. Louis will not be held in person this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the celebration will go on. An hour-long telecast will air on Channel 4 at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The virtual event will shine a light on regional attractions and important charitable efforts and will feature traditional parade entertainment.
• Oscar Leeser’s Hyundai of El Paso Sun Bowl Parade will go virtual this Thanksgiving. A “virtual parade” and will air on Channel 9-KTSM and stream on KTSM.com at 10 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. The parade will include marching bands, floats and specialty units like mariachis, Six Gun Shady Ladies, the El Paso County Sherriff’s Posse and the Shriners.
• Novant Health Thanksgiving Day parade will air on WBTV on Thanksgiving Day. The annual celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday is one of the longest-running events in Charlotte. It will feature “best of” segments from previous years, including floats, marching bands, balloons and other performances.

The city of Chicago has cancelled their Thanksgiving Day Parade this year & has not schedule a virtual event in it’s place.

For the 1st time in 71 years, Houston has cancelled their Thanksgiving Day Parade. In lieu of this year’s parade, they will host the H-E-B Family Thanksgiving Distribution on Saturday, November 21, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., or until supplies last. The distribution will include groceries for preparing your own Thanksgiving Feast! Only one per car.
