Rolling Through Austria: Things to Do

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Art, music, and culture – anyone who enjoys any or all of these pastimes will love Austria. It’s thus not a surprise that most people you find traveling through Austria will have a deep appreciation for these things. And even those who do not will somehow find themselves enthralled by the beauty exuding from the deep history around the arts and culture. They, too, will leave Austria, having been on an unavoidable soul-searching journey. Do you know what else Austrian tourists have in common? Valid passports! You must enter or leave the country with one. So, before dreaming about the world of Mozart, you can always use expedited services to get you a new passport in days. And now, let’s take a visual trip across Austria:

What Can You Do in Austria?

Whether you are set to stay indoors or want to bask in the warmth of summer, you will enjoy this varied selection of things to do.

1. Palace Living

How great would it be to return to a world of chivalry, horses on carriages, and palaces? Well, you can always take this time travel trip by visiting the palaces in Vienna. They are just as stunning as they appear in pictures. And for a fully immersive trip, you can go through the rooms, view the collections, and even act like a royal. If you love architecture, stopping by any of these palaces gives you a glimpse of previous architectural styles.

2. Homage to the Greats

Many Austrians have become stars on the global map. And one key figure among them is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Such a star is he that he is on a one-name basis, even for people who may not know much about music! So, touring his family home in Salzburg might give you some insight into his beginnings. The home, built in the 12th century, now serves as a museum that houses his childhood memories and first musical instruments.

3. Go Mono-Skiing

Skiing is a fun way to enjoy the snowy landscapes in Austria. Many people love gliding over the snow as they watch the beautiful towns below the mountains. And one great place to do this would be in Tirol. While many ski resorts offer mono-skiing, this establishment pays particular attention to safety and training. You can get the gear from them or specialist shops. And their staff are attentive to ensure you don’t get hurt. Once you get the hang of things (after a few tumbles), you’ll be smiling your way down the slopes!

4. Road Trip Through the Grossglockner High Alpine Road

Climbing mountains allows you to view the towns underneath. But it can be tedious, especially when the mountain is snowy and has steep terrain. That’s where the beauty of driving comes into the picture. Instead of breaking a sweat up the mountain, you can drive through it. And the views will still be as incredible! If anything, they will look even better as you won’t be wiping sweat off your face every few seconds. Did we mention that the road is 48 kilometers long and was once a highway? The ride will be smooth and long enough to give you that good-old road trip vibe.

5. Boat Ride in Zell am See

The lakes in Austria are undeniably beautiful. No wonder people cannot stop having picnics by the water once the weather gets warmer. But you know what beats picnics and pictures by the lake? Boat rides! They allow you to take in the scenery, be in the moment, and get that adrenaline pumping. And Zell am See is the ideal lake for a boating trip. Once you’ve gazed at the forested hills around the lake and marveled at its beauty, you can enjoy fresh food in the town. Or you can enjoy the heated pools near the lake for an excellent finish to the day.

6. Dip in the Bad Gastein Thermal Springs

Some people love being out and about during vacations—others like staying in, eating, and getting massages. If relaxation calls to you during your Austrian trip, these thermal springs in Bad Gastein will work the magic. The Roman baths date back to the 7th century and were a royalty favorite. And as you may already know, Roman baths hit all the right spots. Plus, with the rich mineral content in the baths, you’ll get skincare treatment and relaxation in one.

7. Classical Riding, Anyone?

If you’ve yet to watch classical horse rides, why not start at the oldest classical riding school in the world? This Spanish riding school, which has operated for nearly five centuries, houses Lipizzaner horses. And if you’ve ever wondered what equestrian shows entailed in previous centuries, attending a show in this school will take you back in time. It’s a performance you will live to remember. And once the show is over, you can tour the building for a walk down memory lane.

8. Take the Tobbogan in Wildkogel Arena

Most toboggan rides are a few kilometers long. So, it usually feels like the fun usually stops as soon as it starts. No sooner have you begun screaming than the ride ends. But in Wildkogel, the toboggan ride is 14 kilometers long. So, you can scream, yell, breathe, and continue for half an hour. Eventually, you’ll get accustomed to the ride and start taking in the beauty around you. You can even slow the ride down to enjoy it for almost an hour. How great is that?

9. Angles, Lighting, Snap!

Many people go on holiday, hoping they can take a picture that reminds them of how happy they were during their trip. But how many can honestly say they have the perfect trip snapshot? People who have been to Austria! Lean in; we are about to share a secret. Down in Hallstatt, Austria is a beautiful contrast of calm waters and towering mountains. And with just one selfie, you can capture the beauty and peace surrounding this colorful town. Once you get there, you will understand why many people liken the town to a fairytale – it does feel magical.

Of course, you should make a stop at Vienna to take in its museums, architecture, culinary experiences, and historical depth. This beautiful city will be the ultimate icing on the cake that is Austria.
