Federal Worker Pay Averages $71,206

Even though there is a economic downturn going on, federal workers have started to make more and more, some even topping six-figure saleries. USA Today did a survey and reported their findings:
Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession’s first 18 months — and that’s before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.
Cato-at-liberty.org says that “since the economy fell into recession, the number of federal workers earning more than $150,000 has more than doubled.”
The Defense Department has had the highest increase in the number of workers whose pay has gone up, says Street Insider:
The highest-paid government workers are seeing the greatest benefit from the hikes in pay. The number of employees for the Defense Department that make more that make $150,000 has increased to 10,100 in June 2009, the most recently released data, from 1,868 in December of 2007.
An interesting piece of information was raised by a writer at Reason.com,
Since June, the federal government has increased employment by almost 10 percent, while the private sector has cut employment by over 6 percent. And which sector do you figure was more padded to begin with?
