“Media biased? You Bet Your Life….”

I can’t stand it…it’s just too good to pass up….normally I write only one column a week…but this week is special…I’ll just keep on going.

Yesterday was the US Senate vote on S-3454, which was the controversial Military Appropriations bill which include the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell rescission amendment. The bill was defeated  when 43 Senators voted against it.

So, what’s so special about this?

Well, here’s the list of the 43…….

Notice over in the right hand column, the name Reid (D-NV)….is this Harry Reid? None other…..but did the main stream media make any comment about his ‘nay’ vote?

Not a word. In fact, take a look at this article from the Associated Press:

If this is too long, then just Google up ‘Anne Flaherty Associated Press’ and the article will come up as …. ‘Republicans block bill to lift military gay ban’.  (dated Sept. 21) …there is not one word…nay, not one that mentions Harry Reid’s vote. In fact the title of the article lays the entire blame on the Republican party…..no one else.

One might think that Senator Reid might be using his vote to increase his chances of being reelected in his home state since he is so far down in the polls against a relative newcomer in Sharon Angle.

Surely he wouldn’t do that… would he?

You bet he would.

The other point about yesterdays vote concerns the lobbying efforts for the bill by someone named ‘Lady Gaga’. Now I have no idea what this woman does for a living. I suppose she is a singer of sorts, but certainly not for my age bracket. I guess she lists her occupation as that of an ‘entertainer’.

I have no problem with that. More power to her.

What I have a problem with is the fact that she holds a news conference and it becomes worthy of air and press time. Our national psyche seems to hold the philosophy that anyone enjoying their fifteen minutes of fame is to be listened to as some sort of an ‘expert’ on various affairs of state.  To me this would be like having Lee Harvey Oswald on television expressing his views on gun control or Tiger Woods lecturing us on the finer qualities of marriage. Just because someone is famous and has an audience does not make them worthy to expound on our nations ills and recommend solutions that are the provenance of experts.

We have serious issues to be dealt with in this country; we need serious answers which are of benefit to all of us, not just a few.

We also need clear common sense reasoning, not solutions based upon political expedience.
