Vivek Ramaswamy Responds to Eminem's Cease and Desist Order

Rapper Eminem has demanded Vivek Ramaswamy stop using his music on the campaign trail, contacting his music publisher BMI over the issue. 

“BMI has received a communication from Marshall B. Mathers, III, professionally known as Eminem, objecting to the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign’s use of Eminem’s musical compositions,” the publisher wrote in a 23 August 2023 letter obtained by NBC News and first reported by the Daily Mail.

“BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thereto,” the cease -and-desist letter said.

Vivek Ramaswamy offered a performance of Eminem’s 2002 song “Lose Yourself” during a campaign stop while visiting the Iowa State Fair.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said he will “respect” the rapper’s request to stop performing any Eminen songs on the campaign trail.

“I think that I’ll respect his wishes, but I would just say: Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?” Ramaswamy said, referring to the rapper, during a recent interview on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports”.
