Turkey PM Threatens To Declare War As Bombing Of Syria Enters 5th Day

Turkey’s Prime Minister threatens to declare war as the bombing of Syria continues for a fifth day and the UN and NATO mull plans for intervention.

For over a year Turkey has been provided clandestine and overt support for a terrorist insurrection in Syria including logistical support, training and even a military base to plan and conduct military operations from without fear of retribution from the Syria army.

Even in the face of lack of evidence substantiating the source Turkey started a bombing campaign along the Syria border 5 days ago after a mortar shell reportedly fell in a Turkey-Syria border town and killed Turkish troops.

To this day it remains unclear if the artillery came from the terrorist rebels or the pro-government forces in Syria as Turkey continues a scorched earth bombing policy to clear a 10 kilometer buffer zone along the border.

There is quite a bit of speculation the terrorist rebels actually fired the artillery due to the fact the terrorist rebels control the area in question and firing such attacks targets gives Turkey an excuse to demand NATO and the United Nations launch a military invasion.

Meanwhile, there is absolutely no benefit for Syria to have fired such an attack and fully knowing the consequences for doing so they have painstakingly avoided such measures even in the face of numerous attacks by Islamic militant forces on border checkpoints.

Regardless Turkey’s parliament has since authorized the military to conduct attacks against Syria as Turkey’s Prime Minister is still threatening to declare war.

NATO held an emergency session on the crisis and the United Nations is has separately put forth a draft resolution which was vetoed by Russia.

Russia, China, and Iran continue to back Syria’s position in the conflict as Russia warned NATO against trying to find a pretext to launch military actions against Syria.

At the events continue to unfold the corporate media continues their one side biased reporting of the events.

The latest propaganda has been the reporting on a string of terrorist bombings against civilian targets in Aleppo, Damascus and several other Syria cities.

Last week over 48 people were killed in string of bombings in Aleppo conducted by the Al Qaeda arm in Syria.

The corporate media deceptively spun the bombings as targeting legitimate military targets and failed to mention they were the work of Al Qaeda.

RT reports on the fifth day of bombing below in a report below which unsettling echoes the west’s propaganda line that Turkey’s bombardment is in retaliation to Syria government artillery fire even though it can not be said who fired the original artillery rounds.

Turkey has returned artillery fire at Syria for a fifth consecutive day, after mortar from Syria landed in the Turkish border town of Akcakale.

The shell landed some 200 meters inside Turkey, AP reported. According to Reuters, it hit near a plant belonging to the Turkish Grain board, several hundred meters away from the city center.

A short time later, at least six mortars could be heard fired from Turkey. Abdulhakim Ayhan, the mayor of Akcakale, confirmed that Turkish artillery immediately returned fire.

No casualties have been reported.

Turkish forces also returned fire after another mortar bomb hit a non-residential area in the Hatay province some two hundreds meters away from the Syrian border, Reuters reported quoting local officials. The bomb, believed to have been launched by Syrian government troops, did not result in casualties in the district of Altinozu.

These are the latest moves in the already tense relationship between the neighboring countries.

The crisis began on Wednesday, when Syrian mortar shells killed a woman and four children from the same family in Akcakale. The shells also wounded at least 13 people.

The incident triggered artillery strikes by neighboring Turkey. Ankara has deployed additional troops to its southern border with Syria.

“Many critics believe these shells are being fired deliberately. This border area is controlled by rebels and it is possible that they’re firing these rounds to provoke turkey to go to NATO and call for foreign intervention,” RT correspondent in the region Paula Slier said.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s prime minister says that he won’t allow the events to go unprovoked and will declare war if necessary – leading to growing concern that the conflict will result in regional instability.

“You have to be ready at every moment to go to war if it is necessary. If you are not ready for this, you are not a state, if you are not ready for this, you are not a nation,” said Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan tells Turks to prepare for Syria war if necessary
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on his nation to be prepared for a possible war with the neighboring Syria if need be.

“You have to be ready at every moment to go to war if it is necessary. If you are not ready for this, you are not a state, if you are not ready for this, you are not a nation,” Erdogan said in a speech on Sunday.

The prime minister reiterated that Turkey does not want war, but warned Syria not to test its resolve.

“Nobody should attempt to test Turkey’s decisiveness and sensibility,” stated the Turkish prime minister whose country is accused of being a key member of an international coalition attempting to destabilize Syria.

Tensions have been running high between Syria and Turkey, with Damascus accusing Ankara — along with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, and the United States — of backing a deadly insurgency that has claimed the lives of many Syrians, including security and army personnel.

“Nobody should ask… but what will happen if a war were to begin and bring us to that point. You should be ready for it and have the memorandum in hand. What is necessary will be done if it becomes necessary,” he stated.

Erdogan’s remarks came amid days of military strikes between the two countries.

On Sunday, Turkey’s military fired an artillery shell into Syria shortly after a mortar round fired from Syria hit the southeastern Turkish border town of Akcakale.

On Saturday, the Turkish military fired mortar shells into Syria for the fourth day in a row after a number of projectiles slammed into the southern border province of Hatay.

Saturday’s exchange came three days after mortar shells from the Syrian side of the border killed five civilians in the town of Akcakale, which is located in Sanliurfa province in southeastern Turkey.

On October 5, Erdogan said that Turkey was not far from war with Syria due to the cross-border attacks.

“We are not interested in war, but we’re not far from it either,” Erdogan told a crowd in Istanbul.

On October 4, the Turkish parliament authorized cross-border military action against Syria “when deemed right.”
