Louisiana Evacuations. Military Deployed

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

By Deborah Dupré

Update: Thursday, 10 March 2016 12:00 PM

By Thursday morning, officials in north Louisiana had evacuated 3,500 home in Bossier City as Red Chute Bayou nears the top of its levee. Heavy rain continued across much of north Louisiana on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning with another 3 inches. A weather spotter north of Monroe reported 18.1 inches of rain since Tuesday night. Worst of the slow-moving storm has yet to reach more heavily populated and lower-lying area including Baton Rouge, New Orelans, and the Gulf Coast.

Original Story

The military has been deployed in Louisiana for forced evacuation orders and rescue operations as residents struggle to high dry ground amid an extreme El Nino rain and storm event drowning the state. Over 14 inches of rain have fallen over the past day. The entire state faces even greater risk over coming days. The governor has called a state of emergency as water continues rising, predicted to impact millions of residents from the state’s north all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico coast.

The hottest El Nino on record has brought a day-long rain and storm event is underway, spelling major concerns about severe flooding due to impact millions of people. Severe area storms are expected to continue throughout the next 48 hours and beyong. Tornadoes as well as flooding is expected. Over a foot of rain is expected over the next 24 hours, as the Mighty Mississippi swells with even more water draining into it from the north.

Two deaths are confirmed from flooding. Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency for six parishes (counties) and sent the National Guard to help with rescues. In Bossier Parish. People have been pulled from rubble covering them.

Boats are transporting families from their rooftops and out of their flooded homes. Residents are strongly warned to avoid driving on bridges.

“The NOPD will ticket motorists who drive faster than 5 mph on streets with standing water,” New Orleans officials told the Times-Picayune. Jefferson County has implemented similar measures.

Socking images of submerged homes appearing on Twitter are due to become more so as the waters continue to rise.

A flash flood watch has just bee issued for Thursday in south Louisiana where the 3-day forecast calls for up to a foot of rain in some areas. The latest forecast is for approximately 10 inches of rain in New Orleans and five inches in Baton Rouge.

All Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, Natchitoches, Sabine and Webster parish public schools will be closed Thursday following the severe weather to hit the area, according to WTVM. All additional closures and delays can be found on their website.

New Orleans officials reminded residents that driving in flooded streets is prohibited, because it increases chances of sending waves into surrounding businesses and homes.

This is only the beginning, all forecasters warn. Extraordinary amounts of record-setting hot El Nino’s rain and melting snow will traverse south for weeks, swelling rivers, including the Mississippi and others, and swamps, increasing flooding throughout Cajun land.

Louisiana residents are grateful the National Guard is there to assist with rescue operations and prevention strategies. “The Louisiana National Guard, as directed by Gov. John Bel Edwards, has deployed Soldiers and equipment to Bossier, Webster and Caddo Parishes to assist local agencies in response to significant flooding due to heavy rain in the northwest part of the state Wednesday,” the Guard states in a written statement.

“Early Wednesday, four high-water vehicles and eight Soldiers from the 2nd Squadron, 108th Cavalry Regiment in Shreveport, began conducting operations in Bossier Parish.”

The statement says that sixteen additional Soldiers and eight high-water vehicles are beginning operations in the three affected parishes plus it has been authorized to activate up to 200 Guard members as needed to respond to flooding, as well as utilizing existing full-time Guard members.

“These operations could include evacuations, search and rescue, distribution and supply of water and meals, security and shelter support, and distribution of sandbags and sandbag-filling machines.

“The LANG has begun prepping another 36 high-water vehicles and 16 boats in an effort to quickly respond if needed.”

Louisiana Drowing Under Its Fossil Fuel Politics

Hurricane Katrina’s worst damage was from flooding, tainted with carcinogenic crude oil from the state’s hundreds of refineries, that leaked at least 1 million gallons of oil. Big oil was never held accountable for that nor did it ever compensate Louisiana victims for that disaster.

Raw footage below:

Big Oil also never compensated humanity for untold destruction caused by their deliberate lies about global warming science, largely responsible for today’s violent weather. They continue fighting attempts to stop dangerous climate change.

Louisiana has supported Hillary Clinton’s candidacy for president. Fossil fuel interests have pumped $3.25 million into the largest super PAC supporting Clinton’s candidacy. The Intercept reports that many of Clinton’s largest fundraisers are oil and gas corporation lobbyists. “Some of her largest contribution bundlers are lobbyists representing Chevron, Cheniere Energy, and TransCanada — all companies using fracking.” Loss of life, health, homes, livelihood and culture is the price of non-renewable energy addiciton.

I wonder if the Federal Mafia will show up and start stealing guns.

      • Deborah Dupre

Interesting thought. FORCED evacuations could mean anything. We saw it happen once before there. My dear poor little home state…

    • Deborah Dupre

Did you catch footage of Louisiana’s darling for Pres. Hillary Clinton there, helping to rescue people. NOT. Even though she did lead the world into the fossil fuel fracking boom, escalating global warming and the sizzling hot El Nino bringing extra dangerous storms. I can just hear her cackling now, rubbing her hands, taking calls from cronies like Halliburton for some good ol’ American crisis capitalism.

    • Tempest33

Your anger is justified, and good job calling out Halliburton. But Hillary? Quick history lesson here–Halliburton CEO Dick Cheney was George Bush’s VP. Both Republicans, and therefore both Hillary-haters. Bonus question–which President abandoned New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina? George Bush again.

        Who cares they’re all CORRUPT

        • TRUTHY1

Red & Blue = Purple people eaters

      • Deborah Dupre

Thank you, but when it comes to big oil, crisis capitalism cronies are bedfellows, Tempest.

        Tempest33 –

Quick writing lesson – if you can’t back up your statements with factual documentation, then you shouldn’t write bogus claims. In your case, “…which President abandoned New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina? George Bush again.” And your factual documentation of this ridiculous liberal assertion is???

Quick logic lesson – “Halliburton CEO Dick Cheney was George Bush’s VP. Both Republicans, and therefore both Hillary-haters.” You have no idea if they are ‘Hillary-haters’ a term you’ve not bothered to define prior to using it. Your lesson is this – don’t make unfounded leaps to a faulty conclusion that is merely your opinion.

        • Deputy Dawg

A little exhibition of pride before the fall? The hypocrisy of your response is really entertaining but it demonstrates the selfishly arrogant mindset of the carnal man. You demand from other posters proof of their opinion yet turn right around and offer your unfounded opinion and failing to see any correlation at that! I don’t mean to pick on you, man in general shares this tendency.

The truth is there is more than enough evidence out there to prove beyond any doubt the the elite’s two parties, the ones that result to election tampering by purposely and strategically excluding other party candidates for the process, have almost identical agendas. There is no substantive difference between the parties, just a bunch of really superficial nonsense that has gone back and forth for decades seemingly unresolved. American politics work In the same spirit as Israel’s desire for peace with Palestine. It’s all fast talk.

Politicians have been relying on the same convoluted covenant, making promises about exactly the same ridiculous issues generation after generation. Ask yourself; has anything really changed except to benefit a small percentage of the wealthy? I hope this serves as a wake up call. Playing into all this malarkey is no testament to one’s intellect. Your credulousness defines you as either ill informed or a pundit for liars and cheats. Which is it?

JMO – It seems you missed my point, so I took the time for an edit, thanks to you. Hope you reread it. I have a question for you:

I hear people have not suffered enough to stop voting for candidates profiting from fossil fuel addiction and dangerous global warming. The state just voted for Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. How much suffering do Louisiana residents need to endure to get they’re voting for mass extinction?

      • Deputy Dawg

Bro, don’t be fooled by that false right left paradigm. Politics like the presidential elections are really nothing but a dog and pony shows for the naive, or better put the gullible majority of uneducated Americans. Presidential candidates for instance are chosen not democratically by the people of our nation, or even because of their overall policies, but they are instead selected by a handful of party driven delegates pushing their brand of the same rancid garbage. If want to avoid looking like a victim of diminished capacity to the ranks of the educated minority you’re going to have to first acknowledge that you are playing in a rigged game that we peons can never win. Stop condoning a corrupt, hijacked political system through blind and voiceless participation. Myself, I have opted out. I choose instead to walk in the light placing first my faith in God’s promise and second deciding not to participate in the illusion of purity, rather I call out evil where and when I see it.

Never live below water level. Duhhhh…….

      • Deborah Dupre

Pink – Your “advice” is understood – but think about it. More land is below water now, and the rate of that is increasing due to seal level rising because of global warming. Millions are losing their homes because of flooding. They had no idea when they built their lives where they did, that catastrophic events would impact them as is happening now not just in south Louisiana, but globally.

        • LifeIs

A deliberate lie. Land that is “below sea level now” is in specific locations, and it is due to natural subsidence.

The subsidence in Louisiana is well established and well known.

Sea level is not rising. There has been no global warming at ground level for a couple of decades, per satellite measurement. And that is supported by weather balloon temperatures.

Water vapor in the atmosphere has not increased, and in case you didn’t know, an increase is required in “global warming” models. C02 being a tiny part of the atmosphere, and water vapor blocking the same wavelengths.

    • Bob DD

HAARP & CHEMTRAIL WEATHER MODIFICATION! Case closed!

      • TRUTHY1

You may have a good point here ! The average hurricane used to dump about this much rain (or less) in a storm, now we get that much in a “regular” storm !

      • FadingShadow2

Well, of course that would obviously be the case here, and every place else that a flood ever happens anywhere in our country.

        • Deborah Dupre

While I agree that weather warfare is being employed, it seems it has been used to worsen global warming rather than help mitigate it. In other words, it could be applied to trigger vulnerable environments into disasters.

      • wiseoldlady

Possibly the splitting of the Mississippi River is being implemented before our very eyes. The cabal plans such evil for mankind. Look what they have done to California.

        • Deborah Dupre

JMO – It seems you missed my point, so I took the time for an edit, thanks to you. Hope you The next few days will be telling. Let’s see how well the levee can hold this monster.

There is a reason why Shaun Donovan signed a 5 year cooperation with the Dutch to help the US….
