The etymology of the word “holiday” is the combination of two words, “holy” and “day.” A holiday is a day of celebration/remembrance that has its roots in Bible-based (recognized) divine intervention or occurrence. Resurrection Day (Easter) is a holy day (holiday). Christmas is a holy day (holiday). Sunday is a holy day (holiday). *Thanksgiving is a holy day (holiday). New Year’s Day, the Fourth of July, the last day of school, your birthday and/or your wedding anniversary are not holy days.
It makes me mad to hear TV commercials replace calling Christmas with the word “holiday” just because they are too cowardly and/or politically-correct to call Christmas, Christmas. The only other holy day in December is the Jewish celebration of **Hanukkah. If you are Jewish say, “Happy Hanukkah!” If you are Christian, say “Merry Christmas.” If you want to be all inclusive say, “Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas.”
If the words “Happy Holidays” were actually intended to be an honest effort to incorporate Hanukkah and Christmas into one expression of well-wishing, that would be wonderful. However, they is not. The only reason the politically-correct promote “Happy Holidays” is to crush the expression of “Merry Christmas.” And, the only reason they want to crush Christmas is because Christmas is about Christ and they secretly or openly hate the Lord Jesus Christ.
These days anything is possible. There could be some cult that has announced a special religious day for them in November or December. If so, for liars who claim they want to extend the holy days to include the recognized days of cults, have at it. However, I am not inclined to get involved in such things. Jesus said, “Let the dead bury the dead.” (***Luke 9:60). This means that only spiritually-dead people should be involved in spiritually-dead things. There is nothing holy about religious cults. Therefore, their special days are not holy days — not holidays no matter who says they are. Let God’s Word be your truth and not the words of liars. (Romans 3:4.)
Because the political-left are professional liars, they claim they exclude the mention of Christmas in order to include Hanukkah (and/or who knows what). Again, just liars. Remember, the political-left is easy to understand. Their agenda is always and only about money and control (power). Beyond getting your money and exerting control over you, they have no interest. They could not care less about holiness, Christmas or Hanukkah.
When the commercial cowards on television flood the airwaves with “holiday-shopping,” think Christmas. Be wise, smart and educated, not ignorant, hate-filled and/or stupid like those who word television commercials. Say “Christmas-shopping.” Say, “Merry Christmas.”
If you want to make an impact on television advertisement, do not shop for Christmas any place that will not say “Christmas” or does not decorate with an obvious Christmas theme. Money talks! Be sure to stay away from Target for your Christmas shopping. Remember, Target rejoiced (and still does) to encourage men into the girls/women’s restrooms after Obama and the Obama administration said he wanted men welcomed there. Money talks! Where you spend your money is your loudest voice! Speak up!

* It might be rightly argued that Thanksgiving is not a holiday backed by Scripture and that may be true, however, being thankful to God for His blessings is, absolutely, a biblical concept. Thanksgiving as it is practiced in America (thankfulness to God for His blessings) is a biblical thing to do. Setting aside one day per year for our nation to thank God, seems like a holy day to me; if not to you, that is okay. ** Hanukah is not a holy day found specifically in the Bible but more like Christmas and Thanksgiving — a holiday based of a biblical reality.
*** Like 9:60 should not be taken to mean that being part of a funeral is always, often or usually wrong, however, in context, being involved in the specific funeral as implied by the speaker (addressing Jesus) and as referenced in Luke 9 would have been wrong.
