I saw a pig in the filth of a pig pen. For a moment I thought poorly about the pig but then remembered it is the nature of a pig to live in slop. I saw a dog eating his own vomit and thought poorly of the dog, but then remembered that is what dogs do. I saw a child throwing a tantrum in the grocery store because his mother would not buy him more candy. At first, I thought the kid was a bad kid, but then I remembered that is what little kids do until they are trained better. I saw a man out with a woman, not his wife, trying to sneak into a motel room under the cover of night and at first was sickened by the man’s actions, but then remembered, as bad as that is, that is the way some lost people act and live. All of the above is sad but true.
Ephesians 4:22-24 “…put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires… and…put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10: “Don’t you realize that those…who indulge in sexual sin, or…worship idols,…or thieves, or the greedy, or drunkards, or verbal abusers, or swindlers, will not inherit the kingdom of God (that is, will not come to the Lord Jesus for salvation because their love of sin will keep them from a sincere conversion experience). And that is what some of you were. But you were washed.…” (Parenthesis mine, Joda Collins. Verse is a slight paraphrase.)
Before a person is saved he and/or she is likely not to be a very good person. After salvation, we have the power of God to live above habitual sin. Lost people act like lost people. Don’t be shocked at that. Pigs act like pigs. Dogs act like dogs. Children act immature. Lost (unsaved/non-Christian) people act like lost people.
Thank God for forgiveness and starting with a clean slate.
