Serious warnings of a major war in Europe: "The hot heads" threatening the Balkans

New warnings of a possible outbreak of war affecting European countries came from Norway. Defense Secretary Frank Bake Jensen warned that the current disintegration of the situation shows that armed conflict is no longer unthinkable, and that a possible war would have serious consequences not only for the Scandinavian countries, but for the whole of Europe.

The reasons for this, as he said, are many. The first is the increase in defense spending that has been increased by about 30 percent over the past five years, then Russia, which Jensen claims to be trying to undermine Western unity and international co-operation in many areas, followed by religious and political extremism, the problem of migration , but also an increasingly intense supercilious suppression struggle in the world that directly reflects on the stability and security of many countries around the world.

Experts believe that it is no coincidence that such a statement comes from Norway. The head of the Russian Center for the Study of National Security Problems, Alexander Zhilin, points out to Sputnik that the Norwegian Defense Minister is a very well-informed man, and that for good reason and at the right time he mentioned this painful topic.

“Norway, as the country where the largest NATO military exercises of the Cold War have recently taken place, very closely monitors everything that is happening in Europe and makes forecasts. He is amazed by the attitude of many European countries that constantly demonstrate the loathing and lukewarm policies and the fact that these same countries do not care about their own sovereignty, but allow their safety to be taken care of by their “bosses”.

When it comes to what are the points that could be the epicenter of new armed conflicts in Europe, the director of the Russian Institute for Contemporary State Development Dmitry Solonikov claims that one of them is the Balkans.

As Solonikov explains, the tense situation in Macedonia, the totally unclear situation with Kosovo and the frequent provocations of Pristina – these problems can be solved, but in practice there are obviously some centers of influence that do not allow the regulation of the situation and manipulate “hot heads”.

He points out that in addition to these problems there is another focus, and this is far closer to Russia, which is Ukraine. Everything that happens on the borders of Ukraine and Russia is also a European zone of responsibility, but in Ukraine there are a lot of “hot heads” that occasionally appeal to the beginning of a real war.

On the other hand, the situation in the Baltic countries is less tense, but still not ideal. As for other European countries, Solonikov said, internal conflicts are possible, such as, for example, the decentralization process in Spain.

Solonikov also warns that, although the possibility of a war erupting is small, it still exists, and recalls the events of the end of the last century when NATO bombed FR Yugoslavia, “which no one could even expect to dream of.”

At the same time, Yevgeny Obichkin of the Moscow State University for International Relations warns that it is extremely bad that there are no agreements and instruments within Europe that could prevent the emergence of a new hot spot.

She does not rule out that the statement by the Norwegian minister is merely an overture of the renewal of serious consultations on the military spheres and the dialogue that existed earlier between Russia and NATO, and this should be seen as a signal that all parties are motivated.
