Chelsea Manning Defiant, Sent to Jail Again for Refusing to Incriminate Assange

It is a legal circus worthy of any banana republic or tin pot dictatorship. 

After only being released from jail last week for refusing help incriminate WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, renowned whistleblower Chelsea Manning, 31, was remanded in custody on Thursday for contempt of court after refusing to give evidence to a secret grand jury.

Manning was detained again for the second time in 3 months after refusing to answer questions following a second subpoena calling for her to testify again in the Eastern District of Virginia, where the US government is attempting to construct a case which would implicate Assange and Manning is a new “conspiracy to commit a computer crime.”

Speaking to press outside of the court building, Manning remained defiant, stating, “I’m not going to comply with this grand jury.”

In a regressive move by an increasingly desperate Trump Administration, the US authorities continue their policy of coercion and punishment in order to try and compel Manning to help fabricate the government’s latest attempt at stitching together a ‘conspiracy’ case against Assange.

Manning’s lawyer maintain that the methods being employed by the government are “improper and impermissible use of the grand jury process.”

Manning was previously detained in March and spent 62 days in jail, mostly in solitary confinement, before eventually being released last week.
