Sometimes when you’re planning a trip, you want a fairly normal destination. Maybe it’s the beach or the mountains that give you the peace of mind you desire on a vacation.

When you plan a trip to a famous destination like Paris, you might not realize there are some relatively unknown and completely weird things you can do and see. It can be hard to run across these destinations if you don’t know where to look.

Paris Catacombs

We mentioned Paris earlier and most people make a trip, come home, and realize that they could have seen something strange and a bit creepy.

What is it? The Catacombs of Paris. This eerie attraction is rising in popularity but popularity does not make it any less odd.

This system of catacombs is the largest in the world and is made up of over six million peoples’ bones.

Lake Natron

Moving along to an even weirder place, we have Lake Natron. This body of water is located in Tanzania, Africa.

In the summer, the water can reach a boiling 140 degrees Fahrenheit and has a pH level of 9 to 10.5, which is higher than most seas. That isn’t the weird part.

The water has a reddish hue, which is beautiful to see. But also, any animal that dies on this lake stays preserved by the naturally occurring chemicals.

La Isla de la Munecas

The Island of the Dolls is what this translates to and it might not be what you think. Located near Mexico City, mutilated dolls are strung up in the trees throughout the island making for a creepy day and scarier night.

Suicide Forest

Japan’s suicide forest does have a startling name, but if you take that out of the equation, it is truly a beautiful place to hike.

It is the most popular place for suicide in the world and many believe it is haunted by the spirits that linger.

Being as dark as these facts are, Japan does try to prevent deaths and send patrols out to speak with campers in the area.

Even with these dark stories surrounding it, the forest is a great place to take in views of Mt. Fuji.

There are weird places all over the world, and they aren’t too hard to find. You just have to be willing to look for them.

It might be an eerie story told by locals or something friends missed while abroad. Sometimes an internet search will work, and others you may stumble across.

If you truly want creepy, weird, or strange, definitely try to get it from a source other than a hotel or a pamphlet located in a tourism office. While they may have the weird destinations, they’re definitely not going to have the truly wild listed.
