People have a way of taking stupidity to a new level. Think about it: they ask dumb questions, say things they shouldn’t, and just don’t know how to behave well.

Sometimes people are stupid on purpose, though. They do it to get a laugh out of their friends or simply be a little silly. But, there are moments when stupidity goes too far – like if someone gets hurt or offended.

1. The House Sitter

England, 2014 – a burglar gets into a Lancashire home and stays there. That’s right, he didn’t grab and go, nor did he wreck anything. Instead, he treated the house like his own.

The criminal cleaned the dirty dishes and tidied up the house, only to be found sleeping in the owners’ bed when they came back from holiday. While he may have helped out a bit around the house, he still broke in. The owners called the local police to make sure he wouldn’t do so again.

2. The Gun Leaver

It’s one thing to never leave the scene of the crime and another to leave an important piece of the crime behind. A man once tried to rob a convenience store at gunpoint.

While the clerk was handing everything over to him, he set down his gun on the counter. Then, he walked out without the gun in hand! He noticed within a few seconds and turned around for it, but the clerk had already grabbed the gun and turned it on him within that time.

3. The Bank Robber

This next criminal actually got away with their heist. The thing is that her next move was to brag about it. The robber created a YouTube video to brag about busting into a car, then proceeding to take about $6,000 from a bank.

The video may as well have given out her address with all the information she provided! It wasn’t long before the police were onto her and took her in.

4. The Bad Bank Robber

Although it was pretty dumb of the woman above to brag about everything she stole, at least she thought the actual robbery through. The criminal in this next story didn’t.

A man once went into a bank to change his address. He noticed all the money at each cashier’s stand, so he decided to come back less than an hour later with a less than convincing disguise. With socks over his shoes and a pair of sunglasses, he proceeded to attempt the robbery.

Instead, he landed himself some jail time and a robbery of $0 to show for his efforts.

5. The Case of Public Transportation Gone Wrong

When most people want to get somewhere, they ask their friends for a ride or take the bus. They may call an Uber if they have the money or figure out a way to share cars with the people they live with.

Or, they could just steal an ambulance, right? Wrong, but it’s still what one homeless man tried to do in order to get somewhere very important… the strip club.

6. The Taunt Guy

Running from the police in a government vehicle is a pretty easy way to get caught. But, then there’s the matter of the dumb criminal who taunted the police when he heard they were looking for him!

A young boy who broke his release terms after leaving prison was soon sent right back. He saw the police notice on Facebook and decided to comment “haha catch me if you can.” The police caught him later that day.

7. The Identity Revealer

The example above is just one way that social media has lead to the demise of a crook’s scheme. The case of the “identity revealer” happened on Instagram, not Facebook.

A couple had gone years living off other people’s identities. They went to nice restaurants, stayed at nice hotels, and bought all kinds of merchandise with others’ identities and bank accounts. Then, one night, the woman posted a picture of their meal and captioned it with the location of the restaurant.

Soon after, the authorities had everything they needed to piece their case together and bring in the two identity thieves.

8. The Selfie Sender

Here’s one that may surprise you – a criminal once sent the police a “better picture” of himself because he didn’t find the image on the wanted notices to be very attractive. He texted the police directly and went about his business, until he was caught, of course.

9. The Facebook Bragger

Another perfect example of the way stupid crooks think is the case of the Facebook bragger. A man once broke into someone’s home and took some cash, clothing, and a laptop.

He then proceeded to take pictures of himself wearing the coat and holding the cash. The pictures were taken with the laptop’s camera and he then posted them on the homeowner’s Facebook himself. An attempt to brag ended up leading authorities directly toward his whereabouts.

10. The Reward Man

Of all the stupidest criminals out there, this one may take the cake. For a mere $100, a low-rank member of the Taliban once turned himself in back in 2012.

He had seen the reward post in his local area, then walked to a police station to collect his reward. This is something you’d have to see to believe, considering all the American authorities on the case were shocked. If you’re wondering, the man did not receive the reward and was taken into American custody.
