10 Crazy and Weird Things to Do in Texas

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Texas hosts over 220 million domestic visitors each year. That massive tourism industry makes the state the 3rd most popular in the USA as far as domestic vacations are concerned.

If you’re thinking about making a trip to Texas soon, you’re probably asking yourself what exactly you’re going to do while you’re there.

Fortunately for you, Texas has a wide variety of activities waiting to be enjoyed! Some are geared towards more low key travelers and others… others are for more eccentric types.

This article is focused on those eccentric, border-line weird activities. Below are 10 of the weirdest things to do in Texas!

1. Hamilton Pool

Everything is bigger in Texas and their pools are no exception. Hamilton pool resides just a few miles outside of Austin and is actually a natural, fresh-water spring that’s carved its way into limestone and bedrock.

Between the crystal blue waters, the lush flora surrounding the pool and the breathtaking waterfall that feeds it, this is a thing to do in Texas must if you’re in the area.

2. Museum of the Weird

You can’t have a weird thing to do in Texas list without mentioning the Museum of the Weird. This museum is an Austin, Texas staple which shares with visitors a PT Barnum envisioned assortment of all kinds of local oddities.

If you’re looking to take a break from high-brow culture, this museum is your best bet!

3. Jacob’s Well

How many people go on vacation to die?

We’re guessing not many… It’s odd then that Jacob’s Well is such a popular tourist destination in Texas. Jacob’s Well is a small swimming hole near Wimberley, Texas that allows swimmers and divers to traverse crystal blue water about 30 feet deep.

Where this gets ultra weird is that at the bottom of the well there is a tunnel that many divers scuba through. This tunnel is one of the most dangerous scuba destinations in the world and has killed many visitors who have attempted to brave it.

4. Cadillac Ranch

If you’re making your way through Amarillo, take a moment to check out the art piece that is Cadillac Ranch. At Cadillac Ranch, you’ll find ten brightly painted Cadillacs doing headstands in the dirt.

This sculpture makes for a great photo op!

5. Museum of Funeral History

Here’s another death related weird thing to do in Texas – The Museum of Funeral History. This museum is situated in Houston and allows visitors to take a peek at funeral rituals from around the world.

It also shares the history of elaborate funeral proceeding enjoyed by celebrities and other people of note internationally.

6. The Futuro House of Royse City

There’s nothing weirder than aliens and to that end, Royse City has weird-seekers covered. In the 1960’s 100 spaceship style houses were built for the purpose of providing people with cheap, moveable housing.

Unfortunately, these designs were ahead of their time. Very few ever sold and are now left deteriorating in their place of inception.

7. Stonehenge II

If you think your odds of ever making it out to Stonehenge are slim, try your luck getting to Stonehenge II. This Stonehenge parody is located on a ranch in Ingram, Texas and masterfully recreates the scene you’d otherwise need to go all the way to England to enjoy.

What’s even more interesting is that this monument is in much better condition than the original Stonehenge. That’s because thousands of years of erosion haven’t yet toppled and cracked it.

8. Waco Mammoth Site

If extinction is your weird fetish then the Waco Mammoth site should be one of your top things to do in Texas. Here, the largest concentration of dead Mammoths got found by accident. All of them perished as a result of a mudslide tens of thousands of years ago.

In total, the mammoth death count amounted to 24.

9. LEGOLAND Discovery Center

Once you’re done indulging on all of the excellent restaurants in Grapevine, TX, if you’re in the mood for something unique, check out the LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

This attraction represents one of the largest indoor LEGOLAND theme parks you can find in the world. So let your creative colors fly and start building at LEGOLAND next time you’re in the area.

10. Barney Smith’s Toilet Seat Museum

Rounding out our list of weird things to do in Texas is none other than a toilet seat museum. In San Antonio, a master plumber who is also a lover of fine art decided to combine his two passions into a single place to share all of the creativity toilet seats have to offer the world.

We’re not kidding when we say that toilet seats can be creative either!

This toilet seat museum showcases wonderful mosaics that are all masterfully crafted into toilet seats which would be at home in any art gallery in the country… and maybe even a really ritzy bathroom.

So next time you’re thinking you need to go to the bathroom, let that feeling remind you that using the restroom can be about much more than relief. It can also be about unbridled creativity!

Wrapping Up Weird Things to do in Texas

If you’re like millions of other people who are going to make Texas their vacation destination this year, we recommend making your trip one remember by incorporating into your itinerary one of the above activities.

Whether you’re building LEGOS or admiring toilet seats, there is no shortage of wonderful things to do in Texas that you and your weird-centric family can enjoy!
