Want to Get Weird With Your Vape? Here’s How to Make DIY e Juice

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

More than 1 billion people in the world smoke cigarettes. 600,000 people in the world die annually from second-hand smoke. Two-thirds of those deaths occur in children.

A lot of people have already jumped on the vaping game. It’s a much healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes, not only for yourself but also for the people around you.

There are tons of places where it’s illegal to smoke inside, but a lot of those places allow vaping. No more sneaking outside in the freezing cold for a quick drag.

One of the biggest deterrents for vaping is that it can be expensive. One way to save some extra cash is to make your own vape juice. DIY E juice is simple and inexpensive.

Follow these steps for your own DIY E juice.

First Things First

You might be picturing something like a Breaking Bad scene. You’re hiding out in an RV wearing a dirty lab coat, trying not to blow the place up. “Slowly… not too much glycerine.”

Let’s back up a minute.

Making your own E juice isn’t dangerous or complicated. It’s actually pretty simple, but it’s still chemistry. That being said you still need to perform and follow proper safety procedures.

You can practice making your own vape juice in your kitchen, garage, friend’s RV, really anywhere.

Before you start making your juice, you’ll need to get your vape equipped. Try Central Vapors for tanks, batteries, and everything in between.

Ready? Vapes up? Let’s get started.

Ingredients You’ll Need

There are 5 basic ingredients that you’ll need. PG, VG, nicotine, vodka, and flavoring. At the very least, you can use just PG, VG, and some flavoring. Most of these ingredients are easily found in the store or ordered online.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol is more commonly referred to as PG. This is typically the preferred base for DIY E juice. While some may experience allergies, PG is FDA approved.

It’s an odorless and colorless substance. PG is an organic chemical compound that’s found in tobacco, a variety of foods, and more. In this case, we’ll be inhaling the PG, but it can also be injected or taken orally.

Vegetable Glycerol

This is what people are talking about when they say VG. VG is pretty similar to PG, except that it’s naturally extracted from vegetables. Warning, it’s not the same as the vegetable oil you cook with!

Be careful with the amount of VG you use, because it can impact the overall flavor of the juice. This can be either a good thing or a bad thing. Most people use a mixture of both PG and VG to get the right consistency for their juice.

Nicotine Liquid

For some, this is the most important part. While not everyone puts nicotine in their juice, most of us need it. You’ll want to use diluted nicotine liquid that’s compatible with PG or VG juice.

It’s available in a variety of strengths, anywhere between 8mg (similar to ultra light cigarettes) and 36mg (similar to unfiltered cigarettes). Make sure that you wear gloves when handling liquid nicotine.

Vodka or Distilled Water

It’s not required to use water or vodka, but it can be used to thin out 100% VG juices. Add vodka to give yourself more of a throat hit, especially if you don’t use any nicotine. If you don’t like vodka, consider adding some distilled water to dilute the juice.

Flavoring

For the non-nicotine users, this is definitely the most important ingredient. There are tons of different flavors to pick from. You will typically use 10-20% flavoring, but there are some stronger ones available where you’ll only need to use about 5%.

Look for flavors made specifically for inhaling.

Supplies You’ll Need

Now that we have all of our ingredients, we’ll need some mixing equipment.

Plastic Bottles

If you’re reading this, then you’re probably still a beginner. Plastic bottles are great for those of us with little experience. They’re cheap, easy to clean (or disposable), and small. If you have children you may consider getting some with child-proof lids.

Syringes

For the most accurate measurements, you’ll want to use separate syringes for each liquid. Mark your syringes so you don’t mix them up.

Starting to feel a bit more like Breaking Bad?

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

PPE is a must have for any science experiment. Remember those high school chemistry classes that made you wear the ugly goggles? Same idea here. You’ll want some good gloves, goggles, face shields, and maybe even a lab coat if you’re feeling it.

Make sure that you have plenty of clean up materials, like napkins or paper towels.

Step-By-Step Guide

Find a Good Recipe

There are tons of different recipes for DIY E juice. Sometimes finding the best recipe is just trial and error, or you can ask your other DIY friends if they know any good recipes. You can even try asking your local vape shop what kind of recipes they recommend.

Prepare The Nicotine

Once you have a good recipe, you’ll need to have the right measurements. Recipes will usually leave the desired amount of nicotine up to you, so make sure you use the right amount that works for you. You may have to play with the amount before you find a real sweet spot.

Prepare Your Flavors

Just like the nicotine, you’ll want to prepare your flavors. Recipes may recommend that you mix certain flavors together. You can mix any flavors you want, try pineapple and coconut for a sweet pina colada flavor. Set your measured flavors aside.

Prepare a Base

This is where you’ll get your PG and/or VG out. Use the recipe to decide if you’ll be mixing or just using a VG base. A typical combination would be 50/50 or even 80/20.

Mix It Up

This is the fun part. Mix all of the ingredients in your plastic bottles and give it a good shake. No, really, shake it like crazy. The mixture is going to be pretty thick, so shake it really well for a good mix.

Some people prefer to let their juice steep. This just means that they let the mixture sit with the lid open, so oxidation can happen. This step is optional.

Try Your DIY E Juice

You’re all done. The last step is to try it out. If you’re an experienced vaper, you can try out some cool vape tricks with your new juice.

If your first time making DIY E juice doesn’t quite go as planned, that’s okay. It can take several tries before you get a good mixture. DIY isn’t for everyone, but it’s definitely worth it to try your hand at it.
