6 Weird Food Allergies That Might Be Making You Feel Sick

Growing health awareness has brought a lot of things to light. One of the biggest ones is weird food allergies that can affect our bodies in ways both big and small.

1. Red Meat

If you suffer from this condition then you’re not doing your body any favors by eating things like steaks and lamb chops.

It’s also quite hard to diagnose since it seems to occur sometime after you’re done eating. For most people, it will cause a runny or stuffy nose and perhaps a minor rash, but in rare cases, anaphylaxis has occurred.

This previously rare allergy seems to be on the rise, particularly in the Southeastern United States.

The culprit? The Lone Star Tick.

2. Avocado

The horror of every millennial is to find out that they’re allergic to avocados.

If you’re unlucky enough to fall into this relatively rare category then you may also have reactions to other fruits such as banana and kiwis.

If you’re allergic to latex then your chances of being allergic to avocados is also higher due to the proteins which comprise avocado being similar in chemical structure.

3. Sesame Seeds

Sesame seed allergies are quite rare but they can be deadly. The reaction is similar to that of peanut allergies and other nut allergies.

Anaphlaxis can occur in extreme cases.

While it’s easy enough to avoid the seeds for the most part if you suffer from this kind of allergy you’ll want to carefully go over food labels. Many seemingly benign foods use sesame oil which can still trigger a reaction.

4. Corn

The rarest of the grain allergies relates to corn.

It’s also quite similar to other grain and grass allergies which makes it hard to diagnose. Pretty much your only options are going to be a food sensitivity test or the use of an elimination diet.

An allergy to corn can make it a lot harder to find decent food since corn products are in pretty much everything these days.

5. Mango

Mango allergies are another rare, but cross-reactive, allergy. Those with latex allergies are more likely to suffer from it but it’s also tied to apple, pear, pistachio, and cashew allergies.

On top of all that, those who react badly to mangos are also more likely to suffer severe effects from poison oak and poison ivy.

Talk about a bad deal.

6. Apples

Apples don’t seem to have any inherent allergenic properties but if you start suffering from weird reactions when you eat them then you may want to get an allergy test anyways.

Often the reaction is from bitch pollen spread from trees around the groves rather than apples themselves.

It also accumulates on most orchard-grown fruits, so if you have hay fever then make sure you wash your fruit thoroughly before digging in.
