Did You See That?! The Weirdest Advertisements of All Time

Advertisements are everywhere. In fact, the average person consumes about 5,000 advertisements each day!

As a result, advertisers have had to get a bit more creative in their efforts to make their marketing more memorable. But as you’ll find out, not all ads are memorable for the right reasons.

Here are a few of the weirdest advertisements that still have us scratching our heads.

Mtn. Dew Kickstart – PuppyMonkeyBaby

Oh, boy. Where to even begin with PuppyMonkeyBaby?

If you’ve never seen the ad in question, count yourself lucky. Aside from being one of the weirdest advertisements ever, it’s the stuff of nightmares.

A few years back, PepsiCo wanted to launch a new product under its line of popular Mountain Dew soft drinks. The new beverage, Kickstart, would be one part energy drink and one part juice.

So how do they capture the attention of a younger demographic? By creating the most unholy creature known to man: The PuppyMonkeyBaby.

As you may have surmised, the creature in question is indeed one part puppy, one part monkey, one part baby. It’s also all parts awful.

PuppyMonkeyBaby breaks through a panel in a wall, delivering a pail of frosty Mtn. Dew Kickstart drinks, and dancing on a table. At one point he also licks one of the stars of the commercial while chanting its own name.

It seemed like Pepsi’s attempt at trying to go viral. And to be fair, they succeeded. Kind of.

The ad was so strange that people bombarded Pepsi with messages about how terrible the ad was.

Quizno’s Subs – The Spongmonkey Campaign

Say what you will about PuppyMonkeyBaby, but at least Pepsi had the decency to confine the abomination to one commercial. Quizno’s Subs, on the other hand, wasn’t so kind to their audience.

Their contribution to the world of weird commercials was a creature dubbed the Spongmonkey.

If it weren’t for the human eyes, lips, and teeth, these little guys might have actually been pretty cute. But Quizno’s insisted on having these little creatures sing about the joys of eating sandwiches for years.

And truth be told, we have no clue who these off-the-wall ads were even for.

Finding your audience is tough, sure. But by putting forth the effort to discover more about your audience, you can avoid a Spongmonkey situation.

Sugar Rice Krinkles – Krinkles The Clown

Though 1956 was a very different time, we’d guess that even back then people weren’t too fond of clowns. Which makes it all the more baffling that Post Cereals chose a terrifying clown as the mascot of its latest cereal, Sugar Rice Krinkles.

The series of ads is rather unsettling. Krinkles’ crooked smile and dead-eyed stare into the camera are a perfect one-two punch of terror.
