9. Hemp for Oil Spills

The cleansing properties of hemp don’t stop with the air. Microorganisms in the core of hemp perform bioremediation. Hemp is one of the few things that nature produces that actually eats oil.

The microorganism eats the oil and metabolizes it. When it comes out the other end, a nontoxic, oil-free secretion is returned to the water.

10. Rope

No list of hemp products is complete without the original mainstay of hemp-rope. Hemp has been used for making rope for as long as rope has been made. And it still is today.

In fact, any theater with a fly space is familiar with the concept of hemp rope. The fly space is where backdrops are hung. The fly rail is where a technician pulls a rope to bring the fly on or offstage.

A fly rail has many long ropes to hold the backdrops, which is why they are called a hemp-house. Theaters use so much hemp rope for the fly that they are called hemp houses.
