In 2012, an Israeli man filed for divorce because of his wife’s feline predilection. Okay, it was more than that. She brought home not one cat but 550 of the little furry friends.

In his divorce filing, the man claimed the creatures made it difficult to move around the home. He had trouble using the restroom and cooking as a result of their presence. Even those of us who love animals have to admit that hundreds of cats are simply too many.

The “crazy cat lady” is mostly an unfortunate stereotype, but there are times when the label applies. We think this is one of them.

2. Sawing Logs at High Decibels

Snoring is a fact of life for couples who sleep together. Mostly, it is a relatively minor annoyance that can be overlooked because of the extreme happiness and fulfillment people receive from their partners. It could also be a sleep apnea problem.

It was not so resolvable for a Chinese woman who filed for divorce because her husband snored too loudly. Not only did she get the divorce, but she also got a settlement from her husband worth several thousand dollars. We hope that allowed her to get some rest.

3. Straight-Up Demonic Possession

Usually, when someone claims their ex was the devil, they are speaking metaphorically. But in 2017, an Italian man claimed to see his wife levitating and immediately used it as his reason for filing for divorce. He claimed this was evidence of demonic possession, and he wanted that evil out of his life.

4. Getting Let Go Over “Let It Go”

There is no accounting for taste or the consequences of mismatched taste. After seeing “Frozen” together, a man told his wife he did not particularly care for the film. Little did he know she would see his preference as grounds for divorce, but she did.

We would like to think we should all be honest with our spouses, but this makes us think twice before sharing our true opinions about movies, books, and TV shows.

5. Excessive Use of Social Media

Social media is a particularly modern plague on our society, and this is evident in the abundance of hashtags that accompany seemingly every wedding these days. Many couples embrace this new tradition, but one split up over it. A Saudi Arabian man found his wife’s Snapchatting of their wedding day distasteful enough that he ended their marriage almost before it began.

6. A Hygiene Allergy?

“I’m allergic to water! That’s why I haven’t showered in eight weeks.” This was a man’s real excuse to his wife, two months into their union.

He claimed to have a skin condition that kept him from showering. A doctor confirmed the condition but explained water had nothing to do with it. The relationship ended shortly thereafter.

7. Please Shut Up!

Some of the nicest parts of being in a long-term relationship are those moments when neither of you has to speak. You just enjoy each other’s company, even in silence. Our next couple had no moments of silence, and that was the problem.

In 2012, a woman filed for divorce because her husband just would not stop talking, and not just to her. He was especially loose-lipped around friends and family, constantly sharing intimate secrets with them that she wished he had kept within the confines of their relationship. This one is harsh, but we kind of get it.

8. Presidential Proximity

The election of 2016 was polarizing, to say the least. It was so upsetting that one woman ended her marriage of 22 years after finding out her husband voted for Donald Trump.
