Jesus' House? 1st-Century Structure May Be Where He Grew Up (Video and Photos)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

(N.Morgan) Archaeologists were working in Nazareth, the birth place of Jesus, in modern-day Israel have identified a house dating to the first century that was regarded as the place where Jesus was brought up by Mary and Joseph.

This remarkable find may be the very place Jesus grew up, before heading off to teach the gospel.

The house is partly made of mortar-and-stone walls, and was cut into a rocky hillside.

It was first uncovered in the 1880s, by nuns at the Sisters of Nazareth convent, but it wasn’t until 2006 that archaeologists led by Ken Dark, a professor at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, dated the house to the first century, and identified it as the place where people, who lived centuries after Jesus’ time, believed Jesus was brought up.

Whether Jesus actually lived in the house in real life is unknown, but Dark says that it is possible.

Could this be the very house Jesus grew up in?

It is impossible to say on archaeological grounds,” Dark wrote in an article published in the magazine Biblical Archaeology Review.

Jesus, it is widely believed, grew up in Nazareth.

Archaeologists found that, centuries after Jesus’ time, the Byzantine Empire (which controlled Nazareth up until the seventh century) decorated the house with mosaics and constructed a church known as the “Church of the Nutrition” over the house, protecting it.

Crusaders who ventrued into the Holy Land in the 12th centry are bleieved to have repaired the church after it fell into depair.

This evidence suggests that both the Byzantines and Crusaders believed that this was the home where Jesus was brought up, Dark said.

The story of the Jesus house

Until recently few archaeological remains that date to the first century were known from Nazareth and those mostly consisted of tombs.

However in the last few years, archaeologists have identified two first-century houses in this town.

(The other house was discovered in 2009 and is not thought to be where Jesus grew up.)

There are relics of early settlement in the Nazarean basin c9’000 BCE, but not during the period of the Christian story time line. From c720 BCE it was deserted until the dark ages, due to attack from the Assyrians who destroyed any settlement in the region… Oops. more lying for Jesus eh?

        And what is your source?

I guess the Romans just marched through an empty, arable land and left it that way? Seriously? If nothing else, the Greeks would have been all over a large, vacant land. You do realize Nazareth lies on the Plain of Megiddo and would be prime real estate. Was the Roman pottery found in trash piles plants to support the lying for Jesus?

Well there we have it. “..a church known as the “Church of the Nutrition” (Dionysus, the mystery cult with emphasis of life and abundance, had above ground temples) “over the house, protecting it.” (Mithra, the mystery male warrior cult with emphasis on the sacrifice, had below ground temples) They frequently shared the same building complex, there are many such examples.

Christianity is an amalgamation of existing mystery cults, wearing a new name.

Did Mithra and Attis live there too? I honestly thought Jesus grew up over here at my house. Are my beliefs any less valid than anothers?
