We’re Back – The Pause is Over

This blog has been a bit vacant for the past six weeks. Not a good thing for a company that preaches and teaches content based marketing. So what happened? Well, the same thing that happens to many of the clients we work with.  Life got in the way.

I frequently tell our clients that we understand the challenges of marketing and business development in a small company, because we are a small company.  Sometimes people go out on Family Leave.  Sometimes a key employee leaves.  Sometimes there is just to much urgent and important stuff that just comes up and marketing gets pushed to the side for a bit.  And you know what?  That’s okay, as long as you recognize it as a temporary shift in priorities and not a shift in strategy.

Every day for the last 6 weeks, I have thought that I need to get back to writing for the blog.  My team has been writing – but I didn’t even have time to do the editing and posting (yes, I know, delegate). Through all the urgent and important items on my list – selling a house, buying a house, moving (Boston to Charlotte); my father-in-law passing; a hospital stay and recuperation (back pain – probably due to stress) – I recognized that we needed to be getting our marketing plan re-engaged because you cannot grow a business, or even keep momentum, without new business development.  Small businesses are like sharks – if we stop moving, we die.

So if you’ve been doing some kind of marketing or business development and aren’t happy with the results, don’t stop.  Take a pause, yes. Reassess your targets, goals and approach; yes.
