If the coming national election continues to shape up as it appears, once more the corruption of democratic process and representative government will be on parade. It will be a battle of family dynasties, held in equal contempt by the majority of the electorate. Voters can look back to the court appointment of George W. Bush for a comparable corruption, although nothing so spectacular as a JFK assassination has occurred for decades—even though in that decade a bullet every election. The famed Watergate corruptions were followed by the presidency of a Warren Commissioner; the failure of Jimmy Carter after that led to the October Surprise and Iran-Contra corruption and then government by direct CIA control (Bush I). Conspiracy offers a handy shorthand for the study of contemporary American history.

Now comes Bernie Sanders, the senator from Vermont who can rightly boast of some independence. He is dangerously leftist and will be made irrelevant when a terrorist incident happens on American soil, but bless him he got the name of Wilhelm Reich brought into the current political discussion. Mother Jones reported on an essay it recovered that Sanders wrote when he was 28 years old that discussed a book by Reich called The Cancer Biopathy. Read about it here:

Between the filters of Sanders view of Reich and the media’s view of Sanders, great hope exists here for returning Reich’s scientific work to the issue of cancer. Medical science asserts that cancer does not have a basis in emotions or psychological disposition, but who could seriously argue that it does not have these components? In any event, that’s a false dialogue seen in the light of Reich’s actual lab work with bion experiments and T-bacilli. This is a well-known controversy from Reich’s career in the late 1930s. One good place to find a review of it is in Myron Sharaf’s book, Fury on Earth.

When word of Sanders’ dalliance with Reichianism came out, one Steamshovel reader remarked “hey, this is the first time a Reichian has run for president.” The Steamshovel response: “well, there’s Eisenhower…” The historic record suggests that the theme of Eisenhower’s program for peaceful use of nuclear power was taken from Reich’s phrase “Atoms For Peace” and that in fact the two men may have met. Expect Sanders to repudiate his youthful enthusiasm for Reich’s research on cancer, and no one will get near the UFO issue in any meaningful way this election. Reich was sent to jail and in his last days ranted on about UFOs. An associate attorney general under Bill Clinton, Webster Hubbell, also had some rants about the subject. See here:

Like Reich, Hubbell went to prison, although when discussing the various political corruptions he was involved with, Hillary Clinton called it: “the never-ending fictional conspiracy that, honest to goodness, reminds me of some people’s obsession with UFOs…” . From here it looks more like some people’s obsession with the truth and a politics that reflects it.
