Breaking News Warning: East Coast Seismic Blasts Twice Size Of California
The Obama Administration released a “record of decision” yesterday that will allow seismic blasting in an area of the East Coast twice the size of California.
“Just as expected, the Obama administration is opening the waters off the East Coast to oil and gas exploration, approving a plan on Friday to allow seismic tests from Delaware to Florida’s Cape Canaveral,” Sean Cockerham for the McClatchy Washington Bureau reports.
The industry is going to use seismic air guns to find out how much oil and gas is along the Atlantic seabed. There’s sharp debate over using the air guns, that environmental groups and some members of Congress say deafens whales and dolphins – at least.

The decision made Friday will use dynamite-like blasts predicted to injure and possibly kill up to 138,200 marine mammals, harm commercial and recreational fisheries, tourism and coastal recreation, and put over 730,000 jobs in the blast zone at risk.
The impact directly on human is unknown.
Two questions to answe arer: Why did they do this? And how can we stop it?
Why?
“Because multinational oil companies have billions of dollars to throw around, appearing to buy favors and spread lies about mythical funds that will go to coastal communities,” says Claire Douglass,
Campaign Director of Climate & Energy Oceana. “But coastal communities and leaders are smarter than that.”
Sixteen coastal towns and 78 local coastal elected officials already have spoken out against seismic off their shores.“
So what now? No blasting will happen without specific permits approved, according to Douglass. Yesterday’s decision only begins that process.
“We need to tell the Obama Administration today that we know their record of decision is severely flawed and, more importantly, we’re going to be there every step of the way to stop all permits that threaten treasured marine animals and coastal livelihoods, she stated in a written statement Saturday.

“We’ve seen new scientific reports confirming that these amazing creatures not only make the U.S. East Coast their home, but travel and live in a much bigger area than previously thought,” Douglass said, then asking, “Are we ready to start blasting the few right whales that are left?“
Obama is not going to get away with this one without a fight, according to Oceana, that says they are just getting started.
Alternatively, do nothing and watch dead whales, dead dolphins and other dead sea animals wash ashore – or know they are being carried away in plastic bags in the dark of night to be disposed of in secret waste facilities, as Obama authorized along the Gulf of Mexico after BP wrecked the Macondo oil well and lives of millions of people. How much death and destruction can this administration cause before ousted/impeached? As much as possible because the people think they cannot live without dirty, dangerous, unhealthy… fossil fuels.

It is ludicrous and senseless that humankind make such selfish decisions for their own ‘betterment’ with total disregard of the big picture and impact of the decisions made. Much akin to ‘rob Peter to pay Paul,’ actions and decisions such as this do exactly that. This (and other) methods of energy are not solutions merely illusions, bandages to conceal a much more serious injury and will do nothing to ‘heal the wound,’ but merely cause the wound to be bigger and more severe.

Actually, I would worry much more about “Fracking” and what that WILL DO to the aquifer stored “fresh water” supply of the U.S.

It really is not like they are going to air blast continuously over an area the size of California. If you believe that you really are gullible.
You only have to kill 500 right whales once to drive them to extinction. Aside from the humanitarian considerations, they are an important part of biodiversity. Whales perform important ecological services, including mixing water from different depths due to their continual diving, and from different latitudes due to their migrations. They also provide fertilizers for the ocean.
As for jobs, there will be a lot of job loss and hungry people as the mass extinction continues.

Entirely possible! Just look at other major disasters blame don global warming and/or Mother Nature. Look at Louisiana’s sinkhole, fracking…. naturally the earth is going to react negatively to drilling, bombing, extracting fossil fuels. Bottom line: Humans suffer and die so some can use dirty fuel to run their cars.
The sonic blasts will not directly cause tsunamis. They will negatively impact Atlantic ecology, particularly the marine mammals.
That said, fossil fuel exploration and extraction has had devastating effects, and offshore drilling will do so inevitably. With enough wells, disasters are guaranteed. The catastrophic effects of fossil fuel activities have been seen all over the world where fossil fuels are present. In the US, much fof Louisiana has been ruined by the BP disaster (with widespread sickness due to Corexit and crude contamination), the massive sinkhole which has devastated a whole bayou community, Cancer Alley from Baton Rouge to New Orleans, and vast numbers of explosions, leaks, and deliberate dumping of toxics. West Virginia has been devastated by mountaintop removal and the toxic effects of coal extraction and burning, and now fracking (over half the trucks on route 79 are related to fossil fuel extraction). Wyoming, Montana, and Utah are being ruined by fossil fuel extraction. The most populated parts of California are a long-term hazardous zone due to fossil fuels. Arkansas has suffered numerous tragedies from fracking and pipeline spills. Oklahoma is becoming the earthquake capital of the US due to fracking. And almost daily pipeline spills and tanker train wrecks are poisoning people. Finally, the effects of vehicle exhausts are sickening and killing hundreds of thousands of US citizens and constitute a major component of greenhouse gas emissions.
Other than that, not to worry.
Thank you Paul, well we in South Africa have a major problem on our hands then regarding fracking – Shell has been given the go ahead by our most corrupt and incompetent government to rape our unspoilt and beautiful Karoo, in the Western Cape and the information you have given me is grave cause for concern, how our government can allow this to go ahead means only one thing, they’re having their palms oiled with a lot of US$ and care not for the environment nor that area’s occupants.
Regarding the ‘tsunami’ to hit NY, I hope it is merely a theory and does not happen or it could have an alternative meaning that the tsunami is a tsunami of illegal immigrants.
