Almost every U.S. community and business, big and small, can relate to this sentiment. As the labor market continues to tighten, talent attraction has become one of the most important issues facing businesses and economic developers. That’s why Emsi is proud to announce the upcoming release of our third annual Talent Attraction Scorecard.

What’s the Talent Attraction Scorecard?

Every year, Emsi ranks small and large U.S. counties based on how well they attract skilled workers. This year’s Talent Attraction Scorecard includes the rankings and provides tangible strategies to help communities attract new residents and grow their economies.

Because we’ve released these rankings for three years now, Emsi also offers a historical look at which communities are moving forward or backward. Emsi creates the rankings from our Talent Attraction Index, which is based on six, equally weighted metrics:

• Job growth
• Skilled job growth
• Net migration
• Annual openings for skilled workers per capita
• Educational attainment growth (associate degree and above)
• Regional competitiveness.

Strategies for Success

Last year, Emsi released workforce strategies that communities have been implementing to attract and develop talent. This year, Emsi expands on these strategies with examples and tactics for workforce developers, economic developers, businesses, and educators.
