Trending Tech Tuesday: Gradle

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Welcome to the 14th installment of Trending Tech Tuesday, our weekly look at the trending tech skills in Emsi’s job postings data. Last week, we talked about the data analytics platform Alteryx. Today, we’ll talk about Gradle, the official build tool of Android.

12-month growth rate in job postings for Gradle: 58%

What is Gradle?

Gradle is an open-source dependency management and build automation tool that incorporates the strengths of both Apache Maven and Apache Ant, but was designed with flexibility as a top priority using plugins to deliver a more diverse functionality. It uses scripts written in Groovy and Kotlin, which are both domain-specific languages, rather than XML. In addition to being the official build tool of Android, it has become a favorite for builds requiring flexibility and customization not found in Apache Maven.
