Understand the Skills Employers Want in Your Community

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Our last video detailed how to use our skills transferability report to analyze how knowledge, skills, and abilities transfer from one job to another. In this short video, we will highlight the real-time skills employers are asking for in your community. Using Emsi’s Job Posting Analytics, you can quickly and efficiently highlight the unique skills needed for local jobs.

Tips and Tricks from our Director of Workforce Development, John Hawkins:

  • Remember that skills transferability is based on O*NET and doesn’t provide region-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities. Job Posting Analytics, on the other hand, can be broken out by state, MSA, county, or city.
  • We recommend approaching Job Posting Analytics with an initial question that needs to be solved (e.g., how many employers in my region want bachelor’s level registered nurses?)
  • Job postings are useful when comparing skills and other talent needs across companies. Google and Microsoft, for example, both hire lots of computer programmers. But their required skills—and the job titles they list for these positions—can be very different.
