AN Army veteran who was shot in the head in Afghanistan is now destitute, homeless and forced to live in his car. Jack Lamb, 25, underwent a 13-hour operation to save his life after being hit by a sniper while he was in the war-ravaged country during a tour of duty with 3 Rifles.

He spent three years getting treatment at the Army’s Headley Court rehabilitation centre in Surrey before being given a medical discharge. Lamb has suffered from PTSD for six years. The former rifleman accuses the British Army of not helping him to readjust to life and is now reliant on benefits after he failed to find work.

SPUTNIK International recently exposed the British Army’s immoral practice of luring 16-year old schoolboys into the Army. After discharge soldiers, many of whom are scarred by PTSD are dumped on the streets.

They have no work experience, none of the skills and lack the people skills necessary for getting work in the sharp competition of civilian life. Literally, they are left floundering like fish out of the water.

Lamb told the Star on Sunday: “I came from the Army into the real world with no real skills and severe brain damage. I didn’t even know how to pay my own bills. I’ve had severe PTSD, breakdowns and put a lot on to my family. I believe there should be more help for people like me out there.”

He joined the Army immediately upon leaving school at 16, quickly trained and was sent to Afghanistan where he and other teens were used in high-risk mine clearance.

Lamb said: “All I knew was the Army. After I left my life hit rock bottom. I’m on an Army pension but that doesn’t get you far.”

With joining the armed forces still a popular choice of career for British youngsters, there is increasing speculation that the military unfairly capitalises on children’s naivety with targeted advertising that only displays an idealised concept of war, without revealing the potential dangers of signing up.

Former British Paratrooper Michael Start says, “There should definitely be more information; but the information should be of the right kind, like what are you joining the Army for, and what are you actually likely to be doing in the Army, because all the glamorous side of it is fully shown, but the reality of war is not shown.

“The humanitarian and peacekeeping roles are stressed so much, when in truth these could be done by other services. I think it’s a traditional method for the British Army. It starts at young school age with the cadet forces and everything, with cub scouts which are the semi-military type of activity, and then on to cadets at school which is full of military training.
