Don’t Ever Say I Don’t Open My Mind to New Stuff
Past couple of days I went to Berkeley and hung out at the Farmer’s Market. It’s winter, so the market is not as full as it would be in summer but we still found some stuff that was fun. I was incognito with my Public Good sweatshirt on. I am an investor in Public Good and really love what they are doing. Hope you sign up and give it a try.
I did like the vibe in Berkeley. The Cal campus is beautiful in a different way than Stanford’s is. There is a little bit of hippie in this capitalist. The vibe in Berkeley was much different than it was in Palo Alto. I found it ironic that this sign is on campus given the intolerance of the left when it comes to a lot of freedoms beyond free speech. Personally, I always like walking around college campuses.
Sunday, we walked all over San Francisco. We walked from where we were staying to the Castro District. Then strolled over to Haight Ashbury and then Golden Gate Park. Haight Ashbury is obviously not close to what it was. Almost everyone there was a tourist. Heard a lot of foreign languages being spoken. Mostly European.
Sunday night we went to a vegan place at 18th and Mission called Gracias Madre. Our yoga instructor in Chicago recommended it. An aside, we went to The Abode a couple of times while we were in San Francisco. It was great, and we ran into some fellow Illini. I will tell you, Mission street is a pit. It’s like a third world country. Sketchy. Sort of like a Disney Urban Haunted Mansion.
Gracias Madre is worth the trouble though. Anyone that knows me knows I am not a vegan. I am not even a vegetarian. Here are some photos of what we ate. These chips were excellent. The drizzle is made out of cashews. The salsas they had on the table were excellent, and fresh.
These quesadillas were excellent. Filled with squash. Tortillas were the right texture.
We ordered a mole on the enchilada. The mole was spicy! The black beans were excellent and the kale was..well kale.
We ordered the vegan ice cream for dessert. Good, but a nut flavor that if I was not a vegan wouldn’t have been bad.
We have a couple of more days here. Taking off after a meeting on Wednesday morning.
