Thanks To You, NTEB Was Just Able To Completely Switch Over To Fully Secure HTTPS Technology On Our Website

After publishing 6,754 articles over a 9 year period using the HTTP protocol, switching everything over to HTTPS presented itself as a logistical nightmare.

People who own and maintain websites are aware of the relentless push by Google to make all websites HTTPS compliant. For those webmasters who don’t make the switch, Google says that their search engines rankings will be pushed back behind other sites with similar content who are HTTPS compliant. Further, sites still using HTTP are now labeled with a large, red and white “NOT SECURE” icon in the Chrome toolbar which causes much confusion and fear to users when they arrive.

NTEB started life way back in 2009 when SSL and HTTPS were still in their infancy. If you didn’t sell things, there really was no need to have HTTPS. In 2018, all that has changed dramatically. The Internet is where all America and even all the world meets now, and all sites need to be secure whether you sell things or not. But after publishing 6,754 articles over a 9 year period using the HTTP protocol, switching everything over to HTTPS presented itself as a logistical nightmare.

Two weeks ago we bit the bullet and started the switch, and it was not easy. It took a lot of time, it took the talent of multiple techs and developers, as well as new software on the server side, but we did it. The hardest part of making sure all the social media hooks switch over as well. Articles that showed 80,000+ shares on Facebook suddenly registered at zero! A workaround for that needed to be found as well, and thank the Lord, it was. But all that effort took lots of time, and a fair amount of money to accomplish. Bringing in developers to help me figure out problems costs about $45 per hour, and believe me, those hours stack up fast!

Thanks to you, the NTEB supporter, we had the money we needed to finish the job.

When you contribute to this fundraising effort, you are helping us to do what the Lord called us to do. The money you send in goes primarily to the building of the recording studio, but it also goes to the overall daily operations of this site. When people ask for Bibles, we send them out at no charge. When people write in and say how much they would like gospel tracts but cannot afford them, we send them a box at no cost to them for either the tracts or the shipping, no matter where they are in the world. Even all the way to South Africa. We even restarted our weekly radio Bible study on Sunday nights again, thanks to your generous donations.
