CNN Wants You to Swim in Oil!

Apparently, oil from the Gulf spill disaster is only showing up in small amounts on the beaches of Panama City, Florida. But when it does it is cleaned up *very* quickly. The Panama City tourist industry wants you to know it’s safe to go swimming at their beaches.

I watched this CNN report when it aired on cable. Interestingly, when this aired on cable television the ending featured the CNN reporter pointing out that the Panama City beach water is mostly clear, basically suggesting that there’s no reason to avoid swimming there. But that little ending has been deleted from of all the web versions of the I could find.

Does this remind anyone else of that scene in “Jaws” when the mayor tells the media how safe it is to swim at the Amityville beach? I couldn’t find that particular clip, but this one from “Jaws” is also rather appropriate.. Bigger boat indeed.
