The alleged criminal leader, 37 years old, was arrested with 10 thousand US dollars in cash, 4 thousand 700 pesos, 140 doses of crystal and a loaded pistol.

Elements of the Federal Police detained Roberto Mellado or Mollado Esparza, alias “El Betito” yesterday, the alleged leader of the criminal organization called La Unión Tepito.
The National Security Commissioner, Renato Sales, explained in a press conference that “El Betito” underwent surgery and lost 30 kilos to avoid being identified and took refuge in residential areas in Polanco, Jardines del Pedregal and San Ángel.
The arrest, made in the framework of the operation Escudo Titán, occurred yesterday afternoon, August 8th, when the suspect was traveling on public roads in Colonia Rincón del Pedregal, in the Tlalpan Delegation, explained Sales.

The alleged criminal leader, 37 years old, was arrested with 10 thousand US dollars in cash, 4 thousand 700 pesos, 140 doses of crystal and a loaded pistol.
“El Betito” was arrested along with his brother José “N”, 50 years old, who was allegedly watching over him.
José Ramón Amieva, head of the Government of Mexico City, has mentioned in interviews that two drug trafficking criminal groups, the Unión and the Antiunión, are fighting over the central area of the country’s capital, and that their confrontations have contributed to an increase in the country’s violence.
According to police records, “El Betito” went from stealing luxury watches in Polanco to forming a group of hired assassins who sought control of the sale of drugs in the downtown area and then lead the criminal group of La Unión.
He was one of the more sought after leaders of drug dealers by the capital authorities, because he is linked to different homicides, extortion, and charges, mainly in El Centro and in the Tepito neighborhood.
On his Twitter account, the Interior Minister, Alfonso Navarrete, reported on the arrest of “one of the main generators of violence and drug trafficking” in Mexico City and the State of Mexico.
