3 out of 4 Mexicans consider that living in their city is insecure and afraid of being a victim of a crime…Reynosa, Tamaulipas 3rd most insecure, Saltillo, Coahuila one of most secure

The Government of President Enrique Peña Nieto will close with a perception of insecurity of 74.9 percent, among the population.

That is, 3 out of 4 Mexicans consider that living in their city is insecure and afraid of being a victim of a crime, according to the National Survey of Urban Public Safety (ENSU) of September, the last measurement before the start of the new Government.

Although the perception of insecurity is lower than the last four quarterly measurements, it is one of the highest since the start of the ENSU in September 2013.

“It is important to point out that this last comparison must be taken with reservation, given that the number of cities included in the sample has increased,” said the study by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

The perception of insecurity continues to be higher among women, with 79.7 percent, while among men it was 69.2 percent.

Regarding the perception of insecurity in specific physical spaces;

81.7 percent of the adult population reported feeling insecure in ATMs located on public roads.75.1 percent on public transport; 69.9 in the bank, and 67.8 percent in the streets he uses regularly.Ecatepec, the most insecure

With 96.3 percent of perceived insecurity, Ecatepec, State of Mexico, is the municipality with the greatest sense of insecurity in the country.

Ecatepec is followed by Villahermosa, Tabasco, with 94.5 percent; Reynosa, Tamaulipas, with 94.3; Cancun, Quintana Roo, with 92.8; Fresnillo, Tamaulipas, with 90.8; and Tapachula, Chiapas, with 90.4 percent.

In contrast, the cities with the least perception of insecurity were:

San Pedro Garza García, San Nicolás de los Garza, both in Nuevo León; Merida Yucatan; Saltillo Coahuila; Durango and Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, with 21.6, 34.2, 38.1, 39.1, 40 and 41.4 percent, respectively.

The ENSU, on a quarterly basis, has carried out 21 surveys to date.

By September 2018, the Inegi took into account 65 cities of interest.
