Almost nothing is known of the youngest of the brothers who are members of the Tijuana cartel, who graduated as a surgeon, and now 63 years old ,”El Lobito” Arellano Félix
On November 8, 1992, the shots flew through the air at the Christine club in Puerto Vallarta: the birthday of Benjamín Arellano Félix, leader of the Tijuana cartel, who was together with his brother Ramón and the youngest of them, Carlos Alberto, “El Lobito”.
The gunmen, led by a hired murderer of Joaquín ” El Chapo ” Guzmán Loera , named Toño, opened fire on the guards with submachine guns, spraying the crowd with bullets. The shooting left six dead.
The shooting took place in the context of a violent war between the Tijuana and Sinaloa cartels, with Guzmán seeking revenge for the murder of the wife and two daughters of his right hand Héctor Luis “El Güero” Palma Salazar at the hands of gunmen from Tijuana.
The man responsible for the killings was killed in a prison in Caracas, Venezuela, and Palma received the promise of Guzman that he would kill all the responsible men.
Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada García helped “El Chapo” to establish plans for the attack, since Zambada knew that the Arellano had crossed the peace line between the two organizations.
He booked the party at the Christine nightclub , but refused to attend, saying the food was not going well. Upon receiving this phone call, Benjamin decided to leave the party; Ramón Arellano Felix escaped the shooting while it happened.
The Mexican government contacted the mediator between the two cartels, Amado Carrillo Fuentes, who decided that he would kill “El Chapo” to end the war. The next important action of the war was the shooting at the 1993 Guadalajara International Airport, where Cardinal Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo died.
However, the people of “El Chapo” managed to capture Carlos Alberto Arellano Felix , “El Lobito”. Guzmán Loera was determined to kill him to match the promise he had made to “El Güero” Palma that he would avenge the death of his wife and daughters.
They managed to capture Arellano Felix’s younger brother, “Lobito” Arellano Felix, who was later released without harm by Guzman. The shooting was a sign that the war continued despite the previous peace established between the two cartels after the raid on the Otay warehouse, and the shooting made people across Mexico speak.
However, “El Mayo” Zambada, the one who had planned the attack on Benjamin and Ramon along with ” El Chapo “, warned him that the murder would be more expensive for the already battered truce between the two organizations.
“El Chapo” gave in then and left the young man beside a road for his brothers to rescue him.
Palma was arrested on June 23, 1995 after a 12-seater Lear plane flying to attend a wedding crashed. He was traveling from Ciudad Obregón, Sonora to Guadalajara, Jalisco, for a ceremony when the plane deviated and was unable to locate a new airstrip in time.
Palma survived the accident and was then arrested by the military, originally evading the capture by traveling in full uniform as a Federal Judicial Police officer with identification and armed caravan of Federal Judicial Police personnel.
Little is known about Carlos Alberto “El Lobito” Arellano Félix, who was born on August 20, 1955, and became a doctor a surgeon.
Versions say that “El Lobito” completed his surgical training at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and was in charge of the money laundering operations of the Tijuana cartel through several of his companies, such as real estate, construction, nightclubs, exchange houses and retail stores located in Mazatlan, Guadalajara and Mexico City.
There is no indication that the United States or Mexico authorities are persecuting him.
