BREAKING NEWS: Israeli Massacring Gazans In Dark: What US Tax Dollar's Doing, A Human Rights Defender's Account
Before It’s News reporter Deborah Dupré reports on first-hand accounts of the new U.S.-backed Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza. Israeli forces are bombing civilians, burned human rights defenders’ Gaza Ark, cut electricity of Gazans and massacring the Palestinians in the dark of night. The more Israel strikes Gaza, however, the more Hamas regains popularity among locals, the rights workers say. The following are first-hand accounts about the latest massacre at Gaza reported Saturday.
“One major difference between Israel’s current offensive on Gaza and others in 2012 and 2008, Al Jamal said, are this week’s timing of Israel’s bombings at night which he said are meant to maximize the number of casualties.
“It hurts more when you see children dying, or elderly people, or mothers… Many mothers were killed with their children, a pregnant woman and her infant were killed, a mom died shielding her children who died with her too. Siblings were bombed while they are holding each other or sleeping next to each other, twins too.” – Palestinian account via Indy Media.
Deep below the ground, scattered in hide outs out of sight, most of Hamas’ leadership is in a familiar survival mode, trying to make it difficult for Israeli air strikes to target them.
Human rights defenders aboard the new Gaza Ark, however, had nowhere to hide when Israeli forces bombed and burned the aid vessel.
The third of the Israeli massacre was more intense than the second day, according to the account. Consecutive explosions spread across Gaza, “shaking the ground under us,” the account reads. “Israel used Apaches, drones, F16s, warships and tanks against Gaza. Israel expanded its targets in Gaza and bombed houses, school, university, hospitals, cars, media, motorbikes, bus, mosques, A CEMETERY, humans and pretty much anything and everything.”
“It’s getting a little boring to stay homebound and depressing to watch Israel commit repeated massacres like Kaware’ family (bombed a house while people where around it forming a human shield to protect it), Khan Younis beach Café, Ghannam houses and others. Five to eight people were killed, or even more, due to every massacre and many others injured.
“What bewilders me is those illogic bombings on ex-Gaza international airport that Israel already flattened to the ground so many years ago, yet this airport, in Rafah, Southern Gaza, got hit so many times between shelling and bombing the past few days. Why? Its already destroyed. Also, bombing a cemetery? Seriously? Cant the dead have some peace?
Then comes those double and triple bombing of houses already bombed, the writer says.
“Why use six+ F16 rockets on a house when the first rocket already blew up the hell out of it?” the writer asks. “Well, my dear Americans, that’s your tax dollars at work. Israel bombed everywhere across Gaza. The northern and southern parts took all the heat as usual but also the eastern and western parts weren’t left alone.
Israeli warships bombed Gaza’s coastline that set the rights defenders’ aid vessel, the Gaza Ark, and other boats on fire.
“Diane Sawyer of ABC news made a stupid mistake by airing photos of Palestinian war victims claiming they were Israelis, but thanks to alerted Palestinians and pro Palestinians who immediately pressured an apology out of them on air,” the writer said.
About news spreading about a possible ground invasion, the writer says. Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbass said a ground invasion will happen in hours, while Israeli defense minister, Moshe Yaalon, went out and announced the start of a ground invasion against Gaza, but then Israeli news said it will happen Friday (Today) without mentioning a certain time.
Israel has also threatened to cut water, electricity and internet in Gaza to isolate it from the world, “not like they haven’t done it before,” the writer says. “In times of this, you try to hold onto the last once of your humanity because it’s very easy to lose it and become inhuman. It’s an inner conflict that goes on every day.
“I am a civilian, yes, but where are my civil rights? Hell, where are my human rights? Palestinian life matter, even if the world wants to turn its head to the other side and act like nothing is happening.
“It hurts more when you see children dying, or elderly people, or mothers… Many mothers were killed with their children, a pregnant woman and her infant were killed, a mom died shielding her children who died with her too. Again, when I choose not to sleep and track the news instead since it’s too noisy to sleep anyway, I start thinking about life and wondering about humanity.
The writer says lack of reaction or media coverage is “shameful.”
“Some Arabic hotshots on twitter choose to tweet about random stuff instead of covering Gaza news.
“Living through this war is like living through multiple dimensions at once. Life here is normal but not normal at the same time, if you get what I mean (you probably won’t unless you live in Palestine or somewhere similar). There is a point where you go through a normal life but then it clashes with the point that you are actually living through a full blown war. Yeah war. Such an easy word to say if you lived through old wars before, but nonetheless a war is a war with all the ugliness and darkness it brings.
US consulate in Jerusalem sent emails and text messages to American citizens in Gaza asking them to immediately depart and offered them assistance but didn’t comment yet on Twitter regarding Israel’s aggression against Gaza.
Day four has started. If you look at how sunny and beautiful Gaza is this morning, with the birds chirping, you wouldn’t think it’s a wounded city that is being bombed viciously and actually bleeding.
Shout outs: To medics (several got injured), to doctors, journalists on the ground, Palestinians inside and out of Palestine and also occupied Lands of 1948, Pro Palestinians everywhere and to the special friends and people who send their daily support, love, compassion and prayers.”
Israeli forces have continued to target Palestinian homes and families with F16 missiles – and regularly, locals say, hit the wrong targets and instead hit entire families that have nothing to do with the group.
“Despite the rising death toll and destruction across Gaza, there is a general feeling here Friday that the more Israel pounds the Strip, the more popular Hamas becomes, a turnaround for the organization whose popularity has taken a nosedive during its seven year governance of Gaza,” says another reporter on the ground there, Mohammed Omer for the Middle East News.
“In the past, we used to put the responsibility of the siege that we are suffering from on Hamas due to their policies in governing Gaza,” Mofeed Abu Shamala, editor and chief of Gaza’s Al Mujtama newspaper. “But during the Israeli aggression, we think highly of Hamas and I feel they start to get more popular among the population.”
Ground Invasion Feared
Friday, Israeli F16s and rockets continued to torment the Gaza Strip killing 105 Palestinians, injuring at least 750 and turning more than 200 homes to rubble, leaving thousands of men, women and children homeless, their possessions destroyed and lives in tatters.
Israeli authorities boast of launching 1,100 air-strikes – one air strike every 4.5 minutes – since Israel’s most recent offensive began Tuesday. An estimated 460 retaliatory rockets and mortars have been fired from Gaza in the last four days with dozens intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, according to ME News.
In Gaza, locals are apprehensive about a potential ground invasion, an option Israeli leaders have said they are considering, and one which has seen 33,000 Army reservists called up for preparation. Israeli tanks have been gathering for days at the border where their electrified segregation fence separates Israel and Gaza.
Targeting civilians
Mosy Gazans expressed shock Friday at the intensity of Israeli airstrikes and frequency of attacks on family homes, according to MEE. Israeli forces, they say, are intentionally targeting civilians – conducting an all out massacre, supported by the United States. At 2:00PM GMT Thursday when the death toll was 94, the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said 77 percent of those killed in Gaza were civilians, including 11 women and 21 children.
Early Friday morning, Palestinian physician Anas Abuelkas was killed when his home was targeted around 3:30AM (1:30AM GMT) by three Israeli F16 missiles. While he slept, his body was split into small, scattered pieces around his apartment.
The doctor’s killing triggered anger in his Tal el Hawwa area in Gaza City. Neighbours say he was not affiliated with any political party and was a dedicated, serious medical practitioner.
Mahmoud Al Najjar, a resident in Khan Younis, was in shock as he and others collected remains of eight members of the Al Hajj family killed in an air strike late Thursday that also killed several neighbours.
“How can Israelis claim they are not targeting civilians?” Al Najjar said. “If Israel means to stop rockets attacks, why are they attacking people sleeping in their homes?”
‘It haunts me’
Sharif Mustafa, a 36-year-old civil servant and father of three, says his neighbours in Rafah, the Ghanam family, were surely the wrong target. Israeli forces must have meant to hit the house of Jihad Ghannam – a member of Islamic Jihad – but instead hit his cousins while they were asleep, Mustafa said.
“[They are] a very poor and peaceful family, who don’t interfere in the life of others,” he said. “But did Israel really care who was targeted or killed?”
The entire neighbourhood of Yebna, an area in Rafah that was one of the hardest hit locations this week, reeled in shock on Friday at the damage done to the Ghannam family’s home.
“An impromptu rescue team of residents searched through the family’s four-story home, now a pile of rubble, looking for the bodies of their neighbours,” MEE reports. “As 20-year-old Kifah Shihada Dib Ghannam’s burned body was carried from the debris, neighbours standing behind Mustafa wept when they saw the young mother with whom they had been praying on Thursday evening. The body of 7-year-old Ghalia Ghannam was also discovered in the rubble as Mustafa looked on.
“I would never imagine that my children would be among those children,” he said. “I just feel that this is one of my children and it haunts me.”
An unidentified older woman, also killed in the attack, took the worst hit, neighbours said. Her body was taken to the hospital completely burned, triggering a call from a local human rights group for an investigation into the weapons that Israel is using.
“Rockets have chemicals and poisonous materials, and it’s vital for international groups to come and examine the evidence” said Mohammed Al Jamal of the Palestinian Human Rights Defenders network.
One major difference between Israel’s current offensive on Gaza and others in 2012 and 2008, Al Jamal said, are this week’s timing of Israel’s bombings at night which he said are meant to maximise the number of casualties.
Several Gazans told MEE that air strikes this week seemed to increase in frequency during Iftar, the evening meal during Ramadan which breaks one’s fast. With electricity often cut across most of Gaza after 10pm, many of the worst strikes come while Gazans are in darkness.
“Targeting civilians merits war crimes, where all signatories to The Geneva Conventions, must take action immediately,” Al Jamal told MEE.
Ceasefire talks off
Hamas has accused Israel of reneging on the terms of the 2012 ceasefire, which was brokered by President Morsi, of Egypt.
Speaking for the first time since the offensive started, Mahmoud Zahar, Hamas’ senior political leader, said in a recorded statement on Friday that was broadcast by Hamas’ Al Aqsa Satellite Channel that Hamas is not afraid of Israel’s threats and its aggression will fail. Zahar alluded to the fact that Israel would have to make amends for the broken ceasefire agreement:
“Israel started the war, and we will be the one preparing the document which Israel will have to sign,” Zahar said.
Although a White House statement released earlier this week expressed concern about the escalating attacks, many Gazans say they believe the American position is biased and will be watching closely to see how serious the US is about brokering an end to violence in the blockaded Strip.
The more Israel strikes Gaza, the more Hamas regains popularity amongst locals despite increasing attacks that they say target civilians.

During Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s attack on Gaza in late 2008 and early 2009, international doctors in Gaza’s hospitals noted that the bodies showed signs of unusual symptoms, attributed to Israel’s use of experimental DIME (Dense Inert Metal Explosives), Fleschette weapons and white phosphorous.

Thursday, US President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu talked by phone for the first time since the offensive began on Tuesday. Obama offered to facilitate ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. Whether the US will have direct contact with Hamas remains to be seen. Qatar and Turkey are likely to mediate, analyst say.

Friday, Congress prepared a resolution supporting Israel, condemning Hamas “unprovoked” actions after President Barack Obama’s State Department pointed a finger at Hamas as perpetrator of crisis on Thursday.
The Obama administration and leadership in Congress from both parties publicly supported Israel’s continued operation in Gaza on Thursday, with all parties urging caution while reinforcing that Israel’s military actions, thus far, fall within the country’s right to defend itself against Hamas terrorism.
“I would remind you who is at fault here, and that is Hamas,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Thursday, facing accusatory questions from a Palestinian journalist for al-Quds TV in Washington.

No mention of the thousand of rockets falling on Israel as an act of WAR or the fact the Palestinians started it by kidnapping and murdering 3 Israeli teenagers to start the war against non-aggressor Israelis.

One may consider that the Palestinians have so far never exhibited such a military capacity – from where, then, would it all of a sudden come now? The people in Gaza are since many years isolated and tightly monitored, and could not possibly acquire modern missile technology, but so far launched only a few simply assembled hand-made and poorly aimed rockets that caused minimal damage. So how could they suddenly do so much more now?
