BURIEN, Wash. —
Half of a dead whale’s body was found on a Burien beach Saturday morning.

The whale was discovered at Seahurst Park Beach.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Deborah Horne spoke with a biologist who said the marine mammal was a fin whale, which is the second largest whale.
According to researchers, they believe the whale was struck by a boat and died.
When the whale was discovered on the beach, half of its body was missing.
The gender of the marine mammal is unknown at this time and researchers believe it was an adult.
A crew with Cascadia Research will perform the necropsy.
Officials told KIRO 7 the last time several fin whales died in Puget Sound was in the early 2000s.
