The veterans of the Spanish Legion marched to show their support for the Spanish Armed Forces and the State Security Corps , against the attitudes of some political parties ‘that despise, discredit to our flag and who want to break the Constitution.’

The legionnaires, whose martial history, deeds of valour and reputation for chivalry are legendary were furious at the left-wing council’s decision to reduce the Legion’s status. They were dismayed and opposed to leftist resolve to quash the cession of the casernas of the Free Trade Zone , where the Brotherhood of Former Legionary Knights of Barcelona is based.

Legionnaires from all corners of Spain travelled to the Catalan capital, as well as veterans of the Parachute Brigade, the Civil Guard or the Marine Infantry.

As expected, the news and the march itself caused great discomfort among the Catalan independence movement. The CUP has continued since with its campaign slogan ‘Outside Legionaries of the Catalan Countries’, ‘Fascism Never Again’, with which it still; intends to openly show its rejection of the Legion in Barcelona.
