Movies You’ll Love: Gravity

As far as “Outer Space” movies go, there’s a handsome variety: the ridiculous (Armageddon), the harrowing human drama (Apollo 13), the sci fi epic (Aliens), the meditative (2001), and the disturbing (Moon).

Then there’s Gravity.

If you’re reading a movie review on a site called “Texas UFO Sightings,” you’re probably a dreamer like me who would love to step into the coveted boots of an astronaut floating around in space. And probably for the better, you’re never ever going to get to do this.

So, go see Gravity instead. It’s is about as close as you’re ever going to get to the terrifying, soothing, and astonishingly muted blackness lingering right outside our stratosphere (and subconscience).

Sandra Bullock is Ryan Stone, a medical engineer on her very first space walk – more nervous than blown away by the view. George Clooney is Matt Kowalski, a poised NASA pro out to break the record for longest space walk – filling in the lonely silence of space with stories from back home.

When the Russians strike a dud satellite with a missile, the results are catastrophic – deadly debris spirals their way, promptly destroying the shuttle.

Gravity is about surviving and dying. It just so happens to also be one of the most suspenseful and beautiful movies you’ll ever have the pleasure to watch-er-EXPERIENCE.

Gravity is not a movie about the American hero, the terrors of Outer Space, or semi-futuristic space travel… it’s an emotional and physical sojourn into the human soul. Being human means living on Planet Earth. It’s a pesky fact we can’t really get around. Or can we? Maybe we have to…maybe we’re supposed to…

Gravity is perfection. It did not change my life, more like affirmed it (I’m always daydreaming about this crap, my head’s way higher than the clouds). But it definitely has life-changing powers. Something lacking in pretty much every Sandra Bullock movie before this.
