Government Motors Wants Electric Car Mandate

When it cheerfully allowed Barack Obama to seize control of it, General Motors became Government Motors. Although officially de-nationalized now, the once-proud automaker continues to embrace its lucrative role as Big Government’s pet car company.

No one wants to buy your overpriced, underpowered electric moonbatmobiles? That’s no problem, so long as you have pull. Just get a law passed forcing them to be sold:

The automaker is proposing that Washington adopt a version of an existing California regulation that requires that a certain number of cars that an automaker sells are emissions-free.

Why would an automaker want this tyrannical lunacy imposed on them? Because those that make unwanted electric cars can exploit regulations to extract money from other companies:

Automakers who exceed their quota in California are able to sell credits to other automakers who are coming up short…

Government intervention also entails confiscating money from the public to subsidize prices:

The GM proposal does not address the issue of tax credits for electric car purchases, which stand at $7,500 per automaker for up to 200,000 vehicles each.

Crony capitalism works fine for those big enough to have a seat at the table. It protects them from having to deal with consumer-oriented upstarts that don’t.
